Hi

Is anyone from Bradford? I visited your lovely city today, I can't remember if I ever been before but those hills will certainly remind me that I've been from now on.
I do tend to come back as I have a friend that lives there..

Quick question for you... why do you have three shopping centres?!!?
I went to one called Broadway, then found another two one called Kirkgate and then another one called Oast???...

I didn't have time to ask my friend today; but he's not local and he's only just moved to Bradford a few years ago, so I'm not sure if knows..

You've never been to a town with more than 1 shopping centre(s)? I assume you mean Shopping Mall/Covered Market?
Do you live in the UK? This is completely normal. Nearly all towns have had different Markets for different produce/products/livestock back in the day.
Nowadays they obviously don't sell cows and sheep so they have evolved into normal shops/stalls selling Vapes and phone cases :p

I was at university in Bradford. Was a while ago, so things may have changed.

Back then I only knew of two shopping centres. One was like a typical city centre arcade full of familiar high street shops. The other was more like an indoor market.

It’s normal to have one or two… or a shopping centre for a different region but they have three across the road from each other.

Doesn't confuse me at all.... maybe just growing up in Romford has spoiled me for crap shopping :P

Ok, I'll add a few positives.

The Alhambra.
Big theatre that often gets productions usually only available in London theatres.

Science and Media Museum
A fascinating museum, plus one of the first Imax cinemas in the country.

Omar's.
This curry house was legendary when I was at university, and is where I took friends back to when we paid the town a visit. You've not had a naan until you've had an Omars naan.

The student nightlife
While students are around, the nightlife was incredible. There were pubs and clubs everywhere. You could go out every night of the week and have a good time.

Stafford is only about 60,000 population and we have the Guildhall Centre and the Riverside. Guildhall is nearly empty now and is going to be knocked down and rebuilt, so we'll still have 2 shopping centres.

The main competition though is those out-of-town retail parks which I don't like because you need a car to get to them and I'm a blind *******, so not road legal.

those businesses will be the invisibles that slowly die off blaming the internet.

I doubt many under 40 can be bothered going to retail parks

To answer your question OP

Kirgate was the old shopping center, and broadway was part of the new redevelopment scheme to replace kirgate. Kirgate is still kicking along but is for lower end shopping / not much known brand names. Most of the big brands moved to broadway shopping center.

Oastler (or John street market as I know it) is more of a market / stalls things with small traders, fresh fruit and veg / second hand stalls etc. I used to hate going as a kid as I knew it meant £5 school shoes  .
