Hi Just wanted to find out about Milton Keynes. I am thinking of moving out of London but still commutable distance into London.
As property prices are cheaper and 30 mins into London, I wanted to know which areas are good to purchase a property.

Yes there is a few of us on here (although I moved away about 9 years ago, my parents and family still live there)

Lots of good areas, some not so good areas.

- Do you have kids / schools a concern?
- Do you mind a drive for say 5/10 minutes, parking and paying at the station?

Don't share your budget, but that will also have a say :)
Kids not yet, maybe in a few years, short drive is ok.
I had enough of London and just want to get out, London has completely lost it living factor.
London central planners are ruining London 3 lane roads becoming one lanes, twoway roads becoming one-way the list goes on, Park lane has become a complete #### up. London transport is not fit for purpose, the people have no common sense the city is full off idiots.

Not at all, London has become a city that does not function and the inhabitants of the city have zero common sense, it has become backwards in every aspect.

Having spent 2 or 3 days in Marrakech...................,..................................................
If you’re going to live there, try and get a job there, or at least no further away than Ben Guerir, or the commute will be a killer.
traveling in London is hazardous

Yes, Milton Keynes is cheaper that the others. I would like to buy a 2/3 new build house with a garden etc...

Of course I would like nearer to London but the cost is way more than what I can afford.

The Idea is to purchase a place, save and then move closer to London but live in London.

I have contemplated looking at the south part of the external borders of London but dislike the commute and the stations.

I have looked at Sunbury upon Thames and surrounding areas but the house prices are way over my budget.
I have looked at Watford but it looks to grotty.

MK seems to have the facilities of a city but is not a city.

Currently living in MK, there are lots of new developments around, most of them look decent, I
Watford is grotty, don't live there. I live nearby.

However, there are lots of nice places near Watford if you have the cash to buy a place there. Stanmore (end of the Jubilee line), Bushey, Radlett, Pinner, Shenly, St Albans etc. All with trains into the centre of London .

I worked in MK for a while - great for families with cycle lanes and loads of open space . Not so much on ther culture and nightlife

Those places are more expensive for an equivalent property.

That certainly explains why it’s the powerhouse of the UK and one of the most influential cities in the world.

facepalm.
Yes, but it still is a dump of a city. A city can be a power house etc... But it can also be a dump for low wage earners or the not so super wealthy.

London is for the super rich not for the average worker.
You go to wealthy areas they are always re doing the same roads every year or two. The poor parts in the same borough never get done.

Road cleaners are all over In wealthy areas you hardly see them in poorer areas in the same borough.

London is a dump of a city, it is 3rd world in many aspects, one example leaving bin bags on the street for rubbish collect other civilised countries have containers to drop of the waste.

Other countries wash the roads, It used to happen in London not anymore. I am sorry but London is over rated as a city.

Average accommodation in this country is far below the standards of many other EU countries.

( Have post limi before I am unable to type)

LB is about ~20-25 minutes by train from London IIRC, as it's between Bletchley and London.

The big problem with it is that it's a smallish town that has expanded massively over the last 20 or so years with no coherent planning, and no real increase in public services/facilities and it's still only got one route through the town without going all the way around the outside.

I heard Bletchley is ruff? The idea of getting anywhere quickly is a plus for me, in London it can take ages to get anywhere plus now they are messing up the roads from 3 or 2 lanes to 2 or 1 lanes the whole central planning in London is a messy.

I was also thinking to emigrate and move to Spain and work in Gibraltar, this is my last option.

I don’t plan to retire in the UK, specially after the treatment of the elderly in this country. Once you have passed your usefulness you are no longer valued and seen as an obstacle in the UK, ( my impression).

Pollution in London is pretty bad, the infrastructure can not deal with the population density. I have lived in London my whole life with the exception of a few years living abroad.

Most of my friends have left London moving to the outskirts they owned large homes in London and had enough of this city. You think London is great fine, my experience London over the last 10 or so, London is a skip.

Go to Cairo before judging London as a dump. Sure, it's not Singapore - but 3rd world dump? No.

Cairo fine if you think that, As I said I have seen the changes in London.
Sorry, London has become 3rd world city, with 3rd world attitudes and driving skills.
There is no common sense in London, The place is full of idiots that act first with out thinking.

The people in London are just cold, selfish the list of negative descriptive words would be almost endless.

The London experience now is like a conveyor belt and no empathy.

There are plenty of people in London that have really poor driving skills and some have really no idea how to drive effectively and use no common sense to reduce traffic.

I have seen drivers blocking roads and causing tailbacks all they needed to do was to reverse a meter or two this would allow traffic flow.

Nothing works in London, the quality in London is low and people still accept it.

Your posts make me laugh, if you think London is a dump, you should probably travel a bit more. Granted it's not Zurich (which is hands down the cleanest place I've ever been) but it's still head and shoulders above most capital cities and to be honest saying London is a dump whilst asking about Milton Keynes, is rather ironic and got a smirk from me.

I have traveled a bit and have been to very clean cities. I am not looking solely on the cleanliness of the city but also on services, mental ability of it inhabitants, quality of properties, Common curtesy, irrational behaviour of its population.
London fails miserably just look at what they are doing to the roads around Hyde park it just insane.

( btw I have given number of posts per day for I guess being new)

In the case, you will need to look further afield. Beyond Tattenhoe, a place called Kingsmead. There is also a set of new builds towards Stony Stratford by Crownhill, it's that new I don't know the estate name. All I know is that it's huge!

We are going to drive up there over the coming weeks. Drive round areas have a look. Plus would need to start looking at crime stats, if they do area employment stats health stats etc.. to get a good person indicator of the area.

The biggest bonus would be jogging and cycling around greener areas which I am looking for too.

Oh, you wanna play this game?

Ok, let's dance :D

I've been to:

  • London
  • Amsterdam
  • Paris
  • Barcelona
  • Antwerp
  • Johannesburg
  • Cape Town
  • Cairo
  • Abu Dhabi
  • Melbourne
  • Sydney
  • Zurich

And that's all I can remember of the top of my head. I can honestly say that of the lot, London is one of the best.

Paris is a dump. Barcelona pretty nice cleaner. Zurich nice. The others aren’t really known to be world leading cities.
I would move to north Europe but lack of Sun.
I’d live in Barcelona we were thinking about moving there.

It would if it was actually in the estate, but it's in its own estate and you'd never know it's there.

House prices are pretty strong in Oxley - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77953276.html
