Anyone given up smoking?

Yep, 6 weeks in here and still getting drowsyness or insomnia fairly regularly. But then I did smoke very heavily. It seems to be getting better however.

Cut it out totally man! If I can do it and go and get lashed and all the rest ;) so can anyone else.

when i gave up i went cold turkey, blurry vision, intense headaches, vomiting for 4-5 days then it started to ease off

i have been a non smoker for about 16 months now, after smoking for the previous 10 years.

i read allen carrs easy way and since the last page i have had not one craving.

i recommend you exercise in the afternoon or when you can to defeat your lethargy

I stopped years ago just with willpower and went cold turkey. I did put some weight on but that dropped back to normal after a few months.

I've been off 3 weeks now.

Is getting harder as the days go by but sticking with it. Eating too much food and piling on weight, but the way I look at it now is that I can loose the weight, but I can't get new lungs (well, in 15 years time I probably could but that's not the point) :)

I quit about 2 years go - will power/cold turkey. I actually found it pretty easy but the main thing was to break the habit in order to break the addiction. Eating an apple on my way to the station instead of having a fag, that kind of thing. I never smoked in the house so that made it a bit easier too.

The main thing I would say is; you'll only succeed in quitting if you really want to. If not you'll always find an excuse to go back.

quit from 20/day in june last year, just decided not to spend £35/week on cigarettes from then on..

expecting cravings and such i bought a 10pack of marlboro lights that day which i still have in my coat pocket, still in their cellophane.

didn't get withdrawal cravings, did put on some weight, didn't feel ill or anything, didn't have to have psychological help, drug patches, gum or anything.. only ill-effect from it is that i really miss the act of smoking, something for your hands to do, and i felt a bit lost the first time i didn't have my zippo to play with

I was smoking about 30 a day, 40 at weekends, I quit about 2 years ago now, I didn't have "just 1 more" I just finished the pack I had and never smoked again,

Sometimes on a night out I still buy a cigar, but only 1-2 times a year as a little treat :)

Quitting wasn't that bad but in the 2 years I have put on over 3 stone. I was quite slim before so it isn't too bad but I would prefer to be the weight I was

with your weight you also gained something very valuable, health and extended life and quality of it, money etc etc.

don't cry over a little weight, exercise and lose the fat. your a non smoker now with better lungs to cope with good exercise.

But you haven't quit - you say you still smoke when you drink.

I'd recommend Alan Carr's 'Easyway' book to give you a psychological and reasoned slap in the face.

Read this book about 5 years ago (me thinks) Haven't smoked since. I highly recommend it to anybody that wants to quit :)

My motivation for packing up smoking is looking down and seeing a 12'' cut down the middle of my chest, a cut from my ankle to above the knee and 4 marks on my belly where I had drains put in due to having a triple heart bypass a month ago tomorrow.

Have tried many times to quit (20-30 a day about 25 years now).
First time lasted 3 years on willpower. Have now tried nearly all meds but allways struggle when going out for a pint.

4 months this Sunday, same reasons as Riever , although my heart attack was fixed with stent but still suffering now from my heart which isn't getting enough oxygen and i have to go back in Hospital on 17th March for further tests and angiogram after failing stress tests.
