Anyone given up smoking?

Hope everything goes ok for you m8.
I ended up with an extra 18 hours under anaesthetic on ICU after the op due to breathing problems they think because of me being a smoker

Quit 5 years ago, just asked myself why i was doing it and stopped with will power alone. I remember feeling drained, so yeah id say its normal.

Without trying to sound like a health nazi you should take up some exercise, it really boosts your energy levels.

Well done mate, keep it up :)

i know how you feel, my step dad passed away last year also, had the same as you but after had breathing problems that eventually turned into Brittle Lung, he lasted 2 weeks after op before all organs shut down - all to think nearly all due to smoking which he gave up a few years earlier, he was 72. Certainly brings life into perspective and makes you wonder why we do these stupid things to our bodies because we thought it was cool when we was younger.

We have a bad family history for heart probs so I should have known better, I suppose I knew I would have heart problems at some point but didnt think it would be so soon, luckily the love and support of my missus is getting me through it.

Joined the gym today, hit the treadmills for a good 30 minutes and about to head off for a few pints. Really feeling determined to tell my smoking mates to **** off. Will let you know how it goes :D

I'm very sorry to hear from the guys above who have suffered health problems, I really hope everything works out :)

Funny this thread is here...today is my stop smoking date...I have 1 fag left in my box, and I'm heading out to go buy some nicotine gum in a few minutes...wish me luck...I'm 28 and have been smoking anywhere from 10-30 a day since I was 14 / 15....

Good luck, I have so far managed without the patches or gum although I have some strong cravings at times I know what will happen if I start again.

When I smoked I used to be on 5 a day, maybe 10 sometimes. And this was for a period of 4 years. However I could start and stop when I want, for me it was more of a social thing/to pass time also.

However anything stressful came up I'd smoke one. I just woke up one day with the help of my g/f who convinced me to stop and thought, "yeah that's it I'll stop."

I found that if I did something else like go for a jog or read up on something it would help take my mind off things. I walk past smokers all the time and can smell their smoker scent and just think thank god I gave the habbit up.

I saved loads of money and don't smell. :)

well I ended up getting wasted last night with the neighbors and smoked a few fags...but today will be different...I AM determined to quit, but after several drinks my willpower took a carp...Obviously I will be in that situation again, but I'll just try my darnedest...today is another day, and I'm off to see my lady in town who is allergic to smoke, so I can't see myself being tempted until Friday when I'm back at work...

I was just wondering if those of you who quit got any serious side effects. I stopped smoking during the day about a month ago and only smoke on nights out (possibly 5/6) yet I've felt extremely drowsy since stopping during the day. Was just wondering if it is normal for such side effects to last this amount of time?

Hearing things from other people will ease me more so than reading stuff from an internet site probably written by someone who is clueless.

Many thanks,

P.S. This is not a medical thread :)

Just stop smoking completely.

I keep telling myself i will stop but then keep finding myself buying tobacco. Doesn't help me and misses argue more then we'd like recently so i find myself going for cigs more often when i need to get a moment to myself. Quit once before for a year but then went off on a slight bender for a few months after spliting from my then girlfriend and started again.
