I got a Dell U2913WM back in the day to go alongside my then 120Hz 1080p gaming monitor but while it did some things great there was no way it would replace 16:9 for me. I then upgraded to a 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor for my main gaming panel and tried a few different ~34" 1440p ultra-wides to replace the U2913WM but never found anything I was happy with and ended up with the U2913WM alongside my gaming monitor so I have both worlds. I'd have preferred 1440p uw for the second monitor but none of the earlier ones I tried could come close to the U2913WM for image quality and many had quality control issues or other glitches.
Can't ever see 21:9 replacing my main monitor and for that matter I can't see myself going to 4K on the main monitor either - I've a AOC 4K that I used briefly for gaming but its been relegated to one side and aside from the odd racing game with my wheel and the odd 4K video, etc. doesn't get much use.
