Hi i have 2 BFG8800gtx overclocked and watercooled, I am upgrading my motherboard to either the striker 2 extreme or evgas and wondered would 3 of these cards work and would i get much performance gains from it? Cheers.

ive seen it - you wont see a massive gain over two in sli

please please dont get a striker 2

if you must buy a tri sli board then get an evga 790i

tbh for the price i would consider i7

what processor and motherboard do you currently run?
also is your psu up to the job?

Well ive got 2 and if i could get another for a very good price id possibly consider it, but having said that using the middle slot would mean i couldnt use my X-Fi.

Moving to a 790i board would mean DDR3 as well in which case new DDR3 + new mobo id be looking at i7

Yeah dont bother with the 790i, go with i7. More expensive, yes but imo totally worth it and future proof. Nvidia chipsets ftl.
As for the graphics cards, iirc the gtxs dont really scale very well in tri sli. Not really worth it if you game at 1920 or lower. You could sell the gtxs and get a new card and another in the future maybe... or maybe crossfire 4850s?

I didnt really want to go i7 yet as i have a 6850 extreme quad core which is excellent. It would mean new mboard, cpu and ddr3. And the CPU wouldnt be cheap id be looking at £1000 i bet for all this. I mean if i did get the evga and ddr3 i can always upgrade to i7 at a later date and have ddr3 ready cant i? My motherboard at the moment is a ABIT IN9 32_MAX. My PSU is a coolermaster 1000w.

Striker 2 is a terrible board, the evga 790i is better but not by much. You really are much better off with i7. If you don't listen you will find out how depressing it is like a friend of mine. :D

The gains of the third card are very small compared to adding a second card, then there is heat, power and of course the large list of bug/compatibility problems that tri sli brings with it.

Rember to consider the savings in heating bills if you do install three :P
LOL. Indeed, I have 8800gtx sli on my deskop back at home and extended gaming required my window to be open in winter and air con in summer. :p
