Is it branded if so? As in, is there a giant Orange logo on the phone anywhere or is it just software branded?

If so, what are the options to remove any operator guff?

Basically, I have a personal phone contract which I never ever use as I also have a work phone which work are more than happy to pay for all my personal and business calls. Ergo, I want to put their sim in to my desire.

I'm thinking that I can get Orange to reduce my plan to say £15 a month and get the Desire too.

From what i have heard there is an orange logo on the back of the phone...easily replaced if you buy another desire generic back cover.

As for software ive heard that there is a few orange icons within the OS....you could flash it with a generic ROM but if your phone breaks then good luck trying to get the orange shipping ROM to put back on.

No, the phone being branded and network locked are too seperate things.

The branding is simply oranges customised software for the phone.

I just flashed mine from the orange rom to a generic one and its a lot faster, not sure why the operators insist on messing them up in the first place.

Ah, so I might have to get it unlocked too. Although previous phones I've had from orange haven't been locked. But then they've not been branded either!

i have a desire from orange, the logo is about 1cm x 1cm at a guess. you dont see it when you have a case. there is orange software on the phone but only a few which i dont use.

The logo on the back is 7mm square. Oranges software changes include an animated boot logo, changing the icons for some things (e.g. internet) and adding a few bits of software and games demos.

The added software does not appear (from what i remember) in the interface used for uninstalling packages.

Personally I've switched to the standard Desire firmware from HTC.

Correct a few demos (Monoply, Bowling), and other bits (orange app store, messenger, etc) that you cannot uninstall  You also get the orange flash screen on turning the phone on.

Will be doing the same and flashing to the generic HTC Rom, at the weekend.

If you get the phone from CPW you may get an unbranded handset...

Yea, I ordered one from them and it came free of orange os customizations and no orange logo. And on top of that it came unlocked for any network as well. Venturing a bit off topic, I also ordered a Nexus one directly from vodafone and it came unlocked without any branding and was unlocked. Is it an android thing?

btw, I'm assuming by CPW you mean Carphonewarehouse....

or you could buy from mobiles.co.uk on Orange which gets you an unbranded/unlocked Desire and an orange sim :D

I flashed my Orange-branded Desire the other night to a generic rom. Much nicer (like reformatting an OEM's laptop :)).

Who are, incidentally, owned by CPW.

Its CPW that i've bought orange deals from in the past and all the handsets have been unbranded and unlocked. :)
