Just create a new account that sounds interesting and doesn't refer to you.
Add their address, if they accept straight away, they are online.
If you get no response, they might have declined but most likely they are offline.

checked it on three different addresses. Two of mine, one of my friend's.
Reported me online for one, but the other two as offline, even though both accounts are in fact, online
