Need a few benchmarks to see if I should make the jump

I ran an i7 4790k with a 970:

Score 11347, GPU 970 @1501/1851, GFX Score 13413, Physics Score 12345, Combined Score 4986, CPU 4790k @4.4, CEUOTC, Post No.162 - Link Drivers 350.12

Now running a i7 6700 with a 1080:

Score 16559, GPU 1080 @1873/2502, GFX Score 22089, Physics Score 11954, Combined Score 7202, CPU 6700 @3.9, CEUOTC, Post No.955 - Link Drivers 368.39

So prob around the 10-11k mark in FS.

Searching FS brings up 12k FS Link with a 4.4 oc on the i7.

So prob around the 10-11k mark in FS.

Your 4790k is giving a better Physics score. I take it the 6700k is at stock.

i7 6700 non k at stock, mobo is a GA B150M so no oc.

Funny thing here is i get nearly 10k Physics score on a 4.0ghz I7 920 which is only around 20% off the 3.9 6700. It's not like that in games but just shows you how much Cpu's have stagnated over the years.

Personally I'd wait for whatever replaces Skylake. Your 2600 has obviously served you well and Skylakes been around a while now so it must be no more than a few months until it's replaced.

I dropped my desktop in favour of a gaming laptop and decided l wanted both so went for an i7 6700 build as chasing higher benchmark scores can be expensive
