Anyone got a Quad-bike?

My friend has a road legal Raptor 660 ATV.

It's his second one, this is what his first looked like:

It's breathtakingly fast on accelleration and he'll quite happily sit behind me on the dual carriageway at 90. His has all the upgrades such as uprated nerf bar, straight through exhaust, deep dish rims, wider rear axle, trip computer etc. He paid £5k for his.

He wears a full face lid, goggles, gloves, MX pants and jersey then if he's going for a play on the local MX track he'll wear armour.

Is that one road legal? Looks like a farm quad to me, the sort you'd just rip round a field on?

Not road legal as they have to be restricted, indicators and mirrors fitted. Will trailer it around.

The Polaris 800 is no farm quad though despite the colour. Scared me senseless on the demo. Reminds me of riding a motocrosser years ago. Hanging on for dear life. Should be fun

Pfft, it is a farm quad compared to the raptor ;)

p.s. When will I hear back about my job application Spie?

a friend has got his little boy into quadding a while ago, the kid is only young but christ on a bike the way he drives it round a track!

Yeah,

We have a Polaris Scrambler 500 HO which is used on the farm. It sits halfway between a sport (i.e. raptor/predator) and utility quad (such as the sportsman). Its a good compromise as it has nice handling - it'll drift happily for as long as you want it to and isn't too heavy - but it still has 4x4 on demand to get you out of trouble. The legendary polaris 500 HO has plenty of grunt to tow stuff around and lift the front wheels up under acceleration as well :p

Enjoy your sportsman. The 800EFI is a beast, you better have something more than flat fields to use it on otherwise it will be wasted and you'll wish you'd gone for a sports quad! Powersliding and playing silly buggers on a quad that heavy is risky to say the least!

Dave has one, he nearly killed me in german on it and tom almost wrote it off, he wears nothing but then again he is a nutter :p

That I do!!

Though mine isnt as good as the bosses :D Though they are wicked Mark!

The best quad I was ever on was a Yamaha Banshee 350. It was mental. I prefer two wheels offroad though to be honest.

What made you go for the Polaris Spie? It appears to be more of a utility ATV for lugging around trailers and stuff. A Banshee or a Raptor would be a better choice if it's purely for arseing around on for fun.

I bet it pulls like a train though. If I ever get a buffalo or a cow stuck in a ditch I'll give you a call to come pull it out for me :p

As far as protective gear goes you'd be best off with typical motocross gear. Certified lid, body armour, MX jersey and trousers and a proper set of MX boots should be good. Don't forget gloves either.

Just because farms have them to work,be assured that the benefits of tax deductible speed-freakiness don't get missed either ;)
There's nothing like 20 mins of ' just going to check the cattle' to blow the cobwebs away and put a smile on your face.
Don't wear any safety stuff myself, except shades to keep the mud out of my eyes if im going to tank it.But i'm only 400cc on land i know very, very well.800cc on fields where you could get caught out by an unexpected rut or rabbit hole, maybe a helmet would be best.Gloves are handy in the mud or cold too.

Have fun :)
