At a guess I'd say around 2.5Ghz.. Maybe more actually.Ice Rich said:Question though. What would a normal a64 chip i.e winnie, venice need to be clocked at to match a x3800 x2 @ stoc speed?

Ice Rich said:Was hoping it would be more then that. I can reach that with my Winnie.
So even if I overclock the x2 - at best im looking at a 300mhz upgrade.
ferrettoes said:why buy a turdy processor like that when u can get a conroe for the same price that will mince it performance wise ;D
erm no - the Venice is better than the Manchester at 'some' single threaded applications as the Manchester is better at 'some'. Saying they're the same isn't right. But with multitasking and apps/games that make use of multiple cores the X2 will win hands down.aardvark said:errm no.
a normal A64 at 2.5ghz will be the same speed as an x2 at 2.5ghz in single core applications/games.
in a multithreaded application/game the x2 will be a LOT faster - upto 80-90% faster (because there are 2 processors in action now)

Errmm nopeaardvark said:nope, assuming they have the same size cache (which they should do if you are comparing like with like) then there is no difference between manchester and venice at the same clock speed.
