Bit mundane but after general feedback from owners.

Seriously thinking of dropping down to one - currently have a 2litre diesel Astra, but various niggles and it isn't the cheapest car to run.

Tried an Up and initial impressions were favourable given the difference in size and performance.

FYI the VW Up, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii are the same car (built in same factory) and if you're not a badge snob, the Citigo top package is significantly cheaper than the VW Up equivalent.

I test drove a Citigo (75ps) and it was ok for short trip/town driving but I wouldn't have liked it for longer trips/motorway driving.

The Up! is a perfectly good car for city driving. As Zico said, I wouldn't take it for long trips on the motorway - it's a bit noisy and uncomfortable.

They're super easy to park and are good on the fuel consumption.

Looked at a Citigo for the misses to learn in. Nice little car comes with a lot more kit than the UP, but the interior is a bit nicer on the up. MPG is good and its perfect for in city driving I wouldn't like to be regularly taking one on the motorway. I however did take a Mii to Bristol and back on the motorway, wasnt very fun.

I would have one over an Aygo/C1/107 any day though.

I had one as a courtesy car for a couple of hours before returning it and insisting on a decent car. Hated it. Too small, too noisy and too basic. Shocking build quality. And I am a VW fan... or used to be.

Thanks for the feedback. Pretty much what I thought and expected.
I don't do a huge amount of motorway driving, but there are some dual carriageways to work, so same speeds.
I know of the other two and may look at them but I prefer the styling of the Up. Arguably may also hold value better? Badge wise not bothered - I own a Vauxhall:p

Running costs of Astra is just one point as I said, there are other niggles, but don't really want to get into a 'costs' discussion at the moment.

Suffice to say i think a downgrade would save a decent amount per year.

I tried the Up! and new Hyundai i10 back to back and the i10 blew it out of the water for me. Of course, for some people having that badge on the front is more important.

Neighbour's just bought an i10 for his wife and an i40 for himself. Got a HUGE discount from the dealer and I have to say that the i40 is actually an impressive car, doubly so for the money. the i10 is also a great city car.

Citigo is best bang for buck, wouldn't bother with the 75 engine as you only see the extra 15 in the red band. New Citigo Monte Carlos are out and pretty nice could also go for the greenline which IIRC is free tax and Insurance 1 and thus damn cheap :p

Hmm, hadn't thought of the i10.
Might add that to the list for a look see.
If it looks reasonable and drivers acceptably I am not bothered with the badge at all.

Astra decided to have a 'hiccup' on the way to work this morning and went into limp mode.
Fortunately less than a mile from dealer.
Diagnosed as stuck EGR valve. Now rectified but this is now the 3rd time in 12 months it has let me down and it's only a 2010 car so not that old.
It's had a failed dual mass flywheel and EGR cooler previously.

Brother-in-law has a Citigo. Mainly for town driving, but it can handle a motorway if it needs to.
He went and looked at all three - VW, Seat and Skoda and could find no reason at all to spend the extra, so went the Skoda route.
Anyway - for reliability you want a Skoda over a VW anyway!

Useless information, but when all three launched, for some totally unknwon reason the Skoda's available were better specified and had more engine options than the VW or Seat. For the first time ever, somehow Skoda got the pick of the options/engines from the VAG setup over the others.

Pretty much confirmed what I've been told about Vaux.

We have an UP! Groove as my wife's run-around...its ok but she is thinking of trading it in for a Hyundai i10 premium as she took it for a test drive and prefers it.

So another vote for the i10.

Thanks, definitely worth a look then.
Just been looking at the new Aygo on the interwebnet. I assume this again is also based on the 107/C1?
Looks nice in orange though....

Hyburnate.
Exactly what someone at work said when I had to ring in today!
To be fair I think this is just an 'unlucky' car as it has had more than its fair share of other non mechanical issues.
My Dad had nothing but Vauxhalls for over 20 years and never had a murmur out of them.
This Astra has somewhat sullied their reputation though!

Which has just been refreshed to be fair. Think the latest What Car has a review IIRC.

How many miles do you do out of interest?
