Just want to know if it hurts a lot? dentist don't really bother me generally, but this sounds like it might hurt, its costing me £220 aswell !

So anyone had one?

work mate of mine had it done and then took a week off work.

he said it was a bit uncomfortable but not that painfull through the strong drugs ;)

It all depends on your pain threshold :-)

I had one done and it feels like cold needles in the root of your teeth, more uncomfortable than pain. If you can take the injection then you should be ok.

Nothing is worse than the tooth ace before hand IMO.

BTW i was back at my desk as soon as I got back from the dentists - no time off work.

I have had 2 in the past 4 months, i had no pain whatsoever but i did have injections. Dont worry about it mate :)

Mine hurt a lot but then it didn't work properly :(

The dentist said that it was touch and go whether it worked or not and if it gave me any bother then call him over the weekend (had it done on a Friday).

I woke up in the early hours of Saturday morning in agony but I remembered him saying he was spending the weekend with his kids whom he hadn't seen for weeks so I didn't like to bother him (I know how valuable time with kids is when you don't see them often). That had to be the worst weekend of my life - the pain was excruciating.

I went first thing on Monday morning and he whipped it out for me (the tooth) - bliss (was an awkward bugger to get out too, it had 4 roots instead of the usual 2  ).

Not trying to put you off or anything mate :p

Stan :)

I have had two done in the past 12 month's, it's no worse than a normal filling to be honest. If you can take the needle then you will be OK and back in work the same day if need be ;)

I had one done last month and I don't think the injection worked very well as it was like someone jabbing a red hot needle into my tooth. It was infected pretty bad though so that might have made it worse.

I had my two front teeth root filled after chewing a pool table.
No real pain (at the time or during the dentistry) but there was a pretty rank taste when he pulled the nerves out.
The drilling was ok but then he shoved a sort of threaded tent peg into the roots and started yanking the nerves out - really tasted foul.

Is the tooth at the front or at the back (depending on where the tooth is will make a difference). It can be a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days after, but thats it. The pain the tooth gives you before the treatment is a hundred times worse than the pain after.

I've had a total of 7
4 were done while I was on another planet so they don't count.
One was done when I had a bad abcess and they couldn't give me any needles and they drilled straight in and took the root out. Amazingly it didn't hurt.
The worst one had me crying like a little girl and my mummy had to hold me and comfort me (I was 40 at the time). The pain was intense and I had to have 3 sittings just to get the roots out and every session killed me.
A few months later I had to have another one done and I hadn't got the money to be given valium so I decided for pain.
Amazingly I didn't feel a thing and I asked the dentist why that didn't hurt but the one a few months earlier had me crying like a baby.
He reckoned that the one I'd just had done had dead nerves and the other one had live nerves :(

(I've had two fillings today).

Im holding my mouth reading that, Had 1 top front tooth done , 1 back bottom and one top back done, Its more uncomfatale than anything . The thing for me because im on working families tax credits it didnt cost me a penny and i now have 2 GOLD teeth at the back in replacement ,

BLING BLING :D <--- insert gold here

I had one done last december. Was expecting a bit of pain, but felt nothing except the initial injection.
This time next week, I'll have had 3 teeth out under local anaesthetic - 2 wisdom & 1 molar - not looking forward to that!

Mine was slightly painfull and uncomfortable for a day or 2, was weird the dentist took the nerve out and went look heres what your nerve looks like which was a bit bizzare.

Make sure u get enough anaesthetic injected into the area, otherwise for sure its gonna hurt like mad.

When i had my (back) tooth done, i had 1 injection and when the dentist got started on me, i experienced some intense pain when the drill made contact with my nerve. I then had 4 injections in the next 15 mins to make sure that the anaethetic took hold. After this had been done there was A LOT of drilling, but i experienced no pain at all.

So, if u get enough anaethetic, it shouldnt hurt at all (the most painful part is the anaethetic injection). If however there isnt enough anaesthetic, then its gonna hurt like mad.

i had a route canal done when i was 12, didn't phase me. My dentist was really shocked though, said she'd never seen anyone, especially my age, react (or more to the point NOT react) so well, so i'm guessin it's meant to hurt :p

Tom.
