Anyone had an endoscopy?

I had one from my nose down and round to my mouth for ENT treatment.

That was bad enough, I actually cried :( :p
 
Oh while I remember, my hospital letter said I was going to be sedated and I would be in a dream like state so that I wouldn't feel any pain.

Led into the proceedure room and I go, so when do I get my pain relief?

'PAIN RELIEF?! LOLOL HAHA'

I was then assaulted with an enourmous camera :(.

I did get to hold the nurses hand while crying though.

Haha.

It's really weird feeling something moving inside you!
 
Yep had an Endoscopy without sedation, just local throat spray anaesthetic.

Not pleasant, especially if you have a strong "gag" reflex like me. I pretty much emptied whatever bile fluid was in my stomach into the machine attached to the endoscope. Was gagging so strong I burst blood vessels in my face.... !!! :o

I also had oesophagal manometry (pH measuring in your stomach) where they put a small catheter up through your nose, down your throat and into your stomach where it stays measuring acid levels for 24 hours. That was even more unpleasant. Easy to get the tube down there but it scratches constantly on your throat for 24 hours. Pulling it all the way out was extremely wierd but not uncomfortable. Felt like a magician pulling a never ending handkerchief out of a hat :D

If anyone is having an Endoscopy in the future.......GO FOR SEDATION !!!

Oh god, I'm nervous now! I love jumping out of planes, but this has me **** scared. I'm gonna demand sedation, if not I'll bring my own rohypnol or something.
 
I always ask for gas+air at the very least, complete sedation if they're going to be thorough. Love gas+air...makes me smile and laugh uncontrallably despite the imminent pain.

To be honest the two times they popped a camera that way and the one time they put a stent in it didn't hurt during as I was under general. Hurt quite a bit afterwards whenever I went to the loo and while the stent was in I was very sore and my wee looked like claret mosdt of the time. However they took the stent out via local, that hurt like hell and was somewhat disconcerting as I could see the screen while they did it. The clunk, clunk, as they opened and closed the little grippy arm to grap the stent still makes me shudder when I think about it.
 
I had 1 up the bottom a few months ago. In agony for about 30 mins after as they pump you full of air. Made some nice noises to release the air when I got in :D
 
I couldnt imagine having had my endoscopy without sedation same for my colonoscopy. You should ask for the new Capsule Endoscopy version. I had mine through bupa, Swallow a camera pill and wear a belt with a sensor pack on for a day. Get to see it on a wireless monitor as it works it way through it was awesome :D

Colonoscopy is always fun when you come around and you hear fartin but cant feel it and your like wtf who just let rip lol.

A friend of mine is currently suing a hospital for negligence because his nan died of an endoscopy, something which should be a pretty routine procedure. They pierced something, may have been her osophegus (no idea how to spell that) and she pretty much drowned in her own blood. She was in her early 70's.

I'd find the thought of having one terrifying now.

Hopefully the soreness should go away soon...

I had the two together. I went private via Bupa and was sedated for the whole procedure. I remember them starting and then I woke up in a hospital bed.

A friend of mine went NHS a month later and asked to be sedated. He was told they didn't do that and he had to endure the whole thing.
 
having had stomach problems in the past and still on medication ive had two colonoscopy's , hope i don't need to ever have another but to be honest the worst thing about them is not being able to eat before the procedure and then drink this horrid drink to make you go the toilet, the procedure is harmless as you dont really remember much about it!

don't know if the drinks are still as bad as before as it was while ago i had my last one
