Got YLOD last week on my 40GB which will be 3 years old in march, and thought id just put it on ebay and put that towards a slim or such, but remembered about the sales of good act.

So i sent an email to GAME with my receipt attached, and waiting for the reply now expecting them to ask me for an engineer's report.

Is it really that easy ?

Cheers

If you do a search here there have been a number of threads discussing this and the yellow light... from what I remember it would be your responsibility in the fist instance to prove to the retailer that the PS3 had died as a result of anything other than reasonable wear and tear, or damage caused by yourself. (i.e. that it had an inherent fault).

It will certainly be anything but easy!

Well thats not what ive been reading Here

that site said:
This includes fitness for purpose and life expectancy taking into account the price paid and the nature of the item purchased. We believe that it is reasonable to expect a high-end consoles such as the Playstation 3 to last 5 – 8 years when used in the home environment with reasonable usage.

That's an arbitrary interpretation of what "reasonable" means. They say 8 years. Game might say 2 years. You're welcome to contest it in court, but there's minimal statutory basis there.

Was SOGA any good to all the 360 owners with RROD? Not that I recall. They all had to go back to Microsoft. I don't see things being any different with the Ps3, particularly when that is markedly more reliable than the 360.

SOGA is proportionate to the cost.

Guide line is basically, a £200-£300 item is worth arguing over if its just past its warranty, not years.

Well, result got an email back few hours ago, asking for me some more details serial/fault etc, and spoke to them on phone they will ring me back with some reference and total console repair will come and pick it up!
