My front teeth are chipped, messed up enamel.

Would anyone advise Porcelain Veneers.

I know they rip your enamel off but I've not got much anyways. Are they long lasting, do they feel like real teeth etc? ball park price estimates?

I'll be able to answer this in more detail in a few weeks.

I'm in the process of having this done at the moment. Wanted to do this for years because my top 8 teeth are just horrible. Partly my fault for being a stupid kid and partly my brothers for kicking me in the mouth and chipping them.

I'm paying £1600. So I'm guessing it's roughly £200 a tooth. I'm not sure if that's a lot or not but I would be happy to pay double that considering the state they are in.

ive just had mine done. Ive had them for years, but broke them again recently. they are very good i think. colour is matched exactly to your other teeth (my dentist let me choose the shade etc) and they feel like normal teeth (to me they do anyway, as ive had them so long). ive had them for probably 20 years and had to have them replaced once. hth

people cant tell mine are not real if your bothered about that too.

How do they match it, with the other teeth, out of interest?

I went to have a "shade reading" a few days ago. I stood in front of him and smiled like an idiot. He picked from a row of teeth on sticks, and held them up to my mouth until we got the best match.

I have, my fronts. This was ermm, 8 years ago?, probably, Anyway, they're standing up very well :D. I brush twice a day generally, but they're (afaik) the same colour that they were (I recall visiting a woman for a colour/shade matching session prior to the dentist's work). Either way they're a million times better than they were!.

At the time they were expensive (££££'s rather than £££'s), but have proved to be worth the cost. My teeth were a bit of a mess, and I'd had an accident which snapped one of my front teeth in half. Repaired but leaving a mark.

Overall, I would recommend.

I've had two front veneers for about 25 years :D I was told originally to only expect about 6 years from them. They are still going strong.

For colour matching some dentist now use electronic equipment that basically just looks like a pen. This gives them a colour reading of an adjacent tooth.

The only thing I remember being told, was to use dental tape on them when cleaning.

I used to make them. As well as the colour matching, (You can ask to go see the technician yourself to get a closer match if private.) the dentist will take two impressions for the technician to make models. One to build the veneer/s, usually just of the tooth/teeth being worked on and fire in the kiln. Plus a full model for matching, maybe upper and lower depending on the job.

I thought I had veeneers, but apparently it's some kind of bonding solution. Had it when i was 16 (free on the nhs). Am now 22 and its lasted pretty well, going for a "recoat" in two years time.

Am looking into these myself as my teeth are a little stained... is it best to go to Eastern Europe to get it done in terms of overall value? Ive heard the facilities are state of the art there, and much cheaper than most places. Here in Switzerland i'd have to sell organs to get veneers.

Do you grind your teeth?
If so veneers might not be for you.

My gf grinds her teeth in her sleep and needs hers replacing no idea how long she has had them but she's only 24 so won't have been tens of years.
Being a dental nurse she should really know better and get herself a mouthguard which also has the plus point of me being able to mercilessly mock her :D

Not the same but my advice might help. My upper front right tooth got knocked out when I was a kid and I now have an implant with a porcelain cap. I've had it for 6 years, it's very strong, stronger than my other teeth in fact. It's never chipped. Doesn't feel the same as regular tooth but my brain has adapted to the sensation of it being tapped so I don't notice it at all unless I'm thinking about it. To be honest I'd forgotten I had a fake tooth until I saw this thread!

I've got four on my front teeth from when I was a Yoof for the 1st couple of days they are annoying but after that they feel like normal teeth.

Yeah, you really do notice the difference yourself when your feeling around with your tongue :).

I've had my two front teeth done for about 15 years and they still look great. There's a genetic flaw in my family where as a child you can develop brown marks on your two front teeth. The rest of my teeth have always been very healthy so it stood out like a sore thumb. I got veneers on asap which back then was at age 15.

My partner was a little shocked when it came up in general conversation a couple of years into our relationship. She'd never noticed :).

I had a complete smile design done on mine. 10 on the top and 10 on the bottom. Researched it for a good few years before I took the plunge, and went to someone who does all the miss world teeth & a lot of celebs teeth and their main focus is primarily cosmetic work.

I wouldn't trust someone who may only do them like once every so often which is why I would recommend a specialist, although the price tag is hefty as my whole design cost £20k.

Went a bit too white OM1 haha, oh well I always get nice compliments from everyone and the girls always love the smile ;)

Holiday pic for you.
