If you bite your nails, or grind your teeth they won't last long at all.
Very case dependant.

Things I do:

  • Bite nails (sporadichabit since decades)
  • Drink red wine (I guess I could sotp that)
  • Smoke sporadically
  • Grind teeth (not often but involuntary and sometimes in sleep or when drunk)
  • Eat fishermans friend mints by the bucketload

I guess veneers would give me a good excuse to break these habits, however I think I will go for de-staining and whitening first before I go down that route. I would love a hollywood smile though it makes such a difference in the initial impression you give to people.

Cheaper to just never smile

I hate my teeth but **** paying 20k when I'm not a cheery smily person, it would be a waste unless I medically needed it done
So to summarize your post: "I don't need to get it done and don't want to get it done".

Thanks for the info. :D

This post is from 6 or 7 years ago. I think he'll already have had them done by now :D <- smiley with veneers
It's not just about the OP people are also discussing it for themselves as opposed to starting a new thread. :p

How do you find them and can you please give more detail on your experiences? :)

I have 7 veneers top row. From upper left 3 round to the right. Cost me 800 quid and the dentist did a great job for me. He wasn't a specialist but did a good job. He shaved the teeth down to a bit of a stump, measured me for the veneers, put a false set in for 4 weeks and when they were ready, I went back to get the veneers fitted. Did a bit of minor work to get them to fit and sit properly but I was in and out in 20 mins.

I'd love to get my bottom set done but I dont' have 1800 quid spare (for the full bottom set) :/

When you say "shaved down to stumps" how much are we talking? What would happen if in the worst case your veneers fell off and could not be replaced... could you be able to eat and function relatively normally?

Veneers are basically caps over your own teeth. Dentist has to drill down your normal teeth to allow for the stump to let a veneer cap fit over it. Think of it as putting gloves on. Your fingers are the teeth stumps and the glove fingers are the veneers. They use

You see more and more of them, but they do not seem to look very natural, I had wonderded if the technology had evolved, since original post ?
Google, at least, suggests the procelain ones are for life, so maybe not something to embark on for wholly cosmetic reasons

  • For dental veneers to fit correctly, it is necessary to remove some of the tooth’s enamel to compensate for the thickness of the veneer. This is irreversible, and you will be committed to wearing veneers for the rest of your life.
  • If your teeth are quite crowded the veneers may need to be quite thick and bulky to bring everything into line. Some patients find this irritating, and they can be more difficult to clean and maintain.
  • Dental veneers are unlikely to last a lifetime as your gums naturally recede, you may begin to notice a gap between your gum line and the top of the veneer.

Anyone who thinks veneers are "cool" really needs to actually WATCH the process of most of your teeth being irreversibly ground down, and consider the fact that you have leeching bonding chemicals in your mouth for the rest of your life.

As attractive as it is, a bit of fettling and braces can do wonders compared with going full retard and getting 20 odd veneers.

The most unattractive look for a woman, is a blinging white lighthouse mouth and fake boobs, it is quite literally revolting.

I wonder if the laydeez feel the same way about these cookie cutter guys with the tribal tats, boat shoes with no sock, and Ross from Friends style mouth beacons.

*REBOOT*

I don't really know who she is, but, following article on lunchtime radio 4 - curiosity got the better

hopefully she's done a service to influenced people, who think cosmetic dentistry veneers(mutilation?) might be attractive,
dentist on the radio said that some of the tooth state is indicative of addditional problems too, but nonetheless

I wouldnt get them. I have a scale and polish every 6 months and they look fine. My bottom ones are a bit close together but they dont show much. I have 2 missing at the back on the top and will probably get implants one day but no rush
