Hi all,

Considering having this done and I was wondeirng.... will I need time off work? (desk job) Will I be able to drive myself home? Do they knock you out or is it just a local?

thanks,

Alex

I had it after my youngest was born 13 years ago. It was done under local and I did drive myself home. I ended getting an infection and had about a week off work. But don't let my experiences put you off...

I've been thinking about it.

Just had our second child and we don't want anymore.

Its a local anaesthetic and I believe the recovery time is very small.

Doc talked me through but put me off with the chance of 'Chronic testicular pain' which wont go away.

Doc also stressed to consider it a permanent operation and to consider if anything happened in my life in the future that would make me want more children, if i was to be with somebody else one day etc or if something was to happen to our kids would we want more.

Medical thread alert...... Medical thread alert......

First, speak to your GP.

When i had mine done, I needed some bed rest due to swelling and mavity issues.

Newer procedures may mean less bruising and swelling.

See you GP.

I had it done back in April of this year.

Was nervous as hell going in! But the doc that did mine was amazing and made me feel very relaxed.

Yes its a local anaesthetic, but to be fair that didn't hurt much at all. After that I didn't feel a thing during the op itself. After the op I stayed off my feet the next day, at the doc's orders, and didn't have any issues afterwards at all. A bit of ball ache for a few days, but nothing major at all. Just make sure you wear tight fitting underwear afterwards though ;)

Was fine. Done Sat AM. Drove home and was back in work on Monday morning.

Slightly itchy round the two stitches for a week or so and thats it.

Is it so hard to wear a condom?

I've been with my gf for 15yrs and we have 3 children between us. Myself and the gf are at an age now where we don't want anymore children.

Plus the depo injection that the gf was on, can have some long term health issues and it's easier for me to have the snip than it is for the gf to have a hysterectomy.

Sounds painful, so no

Not like I am really in the position to concider such a thing anyway, currently have zero kids, zero gf's, and zero action (at the moment)

I have several friends who have had it done on the NHS. They may be just unlucky, but not one had a good story to tell. One has re-occurring infections and swellings, another had to be injected several times and said it was utter agony and my boss had something come loose and ended up with severe swelling and had to sit in a blow up ring for several days.

I therefore took a different option of going with a newer techique called "No Needle Anaesthesia, No Scalpel Vasectomy". Some local NHS trusts are already offering it, but unfortunatley mine didn't so I had to pay, but it wasn't much. It was completly pain free, just a feeling of a 'flick' on the underneath of your chap and that was it. 45 mins later I was out and having lunch in a restaurant. The price includes a sperm count test 3 months down the line, when I was happily declared to have 'no more swimmers', which after having 3 (wonderful) kids was very welcome news to me!!

Yes I guess one could wear condoms for life, but really sod that, I would rather have that natural feel and be able to sleep well afterwards knowing that there aren't going to be any surprises!! :)

No and I wont. I doubt I'm having anymore kids but you never know and I've had enough surgery in my life without doctors going near the Crown Jewels.

I had mine about 10 years ago, the op wasn't straight forward one as I'd had a torsion of the tubes when I was younger, but the doc handled it very well. I got a mate to drive me home and spent the rest of the day in bed.

No problems at all after, worst part was wearing tight undies for the next week :D

Not had it done myself but from a friend who got it done a couple of years ago...
Apparently after a 'session', say the 4th or 5th time in a short period of time...

He has to lie down for an hour to let the pain go away :P

But the actual post-op thing it was just funny watching him walk up the stairs XD

Same here! My and the wife have had 2 children now and don't want anymore. Glad to know its not just me who wants to know what it was like!
