Anyone have trouble finding shoes that fit?

Alright so this might be an odd subject for a thread on a computer forum but i'm just curious to see if anyone suffers the same pain (literally) as I do when trying to find footwear?

I'm a size nine which is probably fairly average for a guy but so many shoes/boots/whatever slip at the heel and end up rubbing so badly I get blisters. I've been wearing the same pair of Converse for aaaages now, I might try and find a Make-Your-Own-Shoes course. Cant be too hard. :D
 
How do you wear the Chucks? I used to wear them with the lace inside, running all the way down to my toes, and after a while I started getting blisters like mad so ditched them forever.
 
I'm a 10 and a half give or take the half depending on the brand which isn't an issue, but by far the biggest problem I have is the width of my foot. Buying any kind of formal footwear is normally a nightmare, unless I get some ugly school like shoe from Clarks and only place my foot feels at home is likes of Caterpillar boots and hiking footwear. Have a very wasted pair of Allen Edmonds shoes along with plenty other types that I couldn't be bothered to return.

Anything from High Street places such as Next are a no go so end up rather limited in my choice. Does sound like your shoes are too big though if your heel is slipping, one trick I picked up during hiking though is sticking zinc oxide tape on the places you suspect will get blisters. Acts as a second layer of skin and still toughens up the area without developing a painful blister.
 
Really needed a pair of shoes on the night for an evening event and had rather limited choice so just toughed it out for 4 hours.
 
Not much choice for my ape feet, would love a nicely fitting pair of brogues and oxfords but mostly stuck wearing casual stuff or boots. Need to do some research to see who does quality footwear in wide sizes out the fancy brands.

Herring do a wide selection of wide and very wide fits across a few brands including some for decent prices like the above...worth a try? Exceptional customer service and no quibble returns policy too..
 
I am a size 6 - hardly anyone does men's shoes in 6 -- 6 1/2 is to big so yes I struggle - My last pair of trainers were kiddies size and they were rubbish and not cheap either.

A size 8 would do me then collars and cuffs would match :):)

Go to Clarks, get measured properly and buy some that fit. Use Compeed heel protectors until the leather is broken in.
 
Sounds like a narrow foot problem with the OP, something I'm very familiar with myself. For formal shoes I'm now down to one brand only which is rockport; I've spent on occasion a full hour in places like Clarks and tried pretty much every style they have yet none fit.

The world seems to be obsessed with "wider fit" men's shoes but seems to be forgetting about those of us with girly feet ;) Looks like we're destined to wear trainers forever!

How old are you?

Made to measure shoes are expensive, but not that expensive! (The Last is the expensive bit)

Feet and Teeth are the most important parts of your life!

If you really cannot find off_the_shelf footwear that you are comfortable with you really should go for MTM!
