Anyone here have a Yaris?

I had a Yaris T sport for about 3 years. It was a really easy car to drive. Never had a problem with it at all. Just look out for one that had the most features.

My parents have got a Yaris, I didn't like it due to the way it looked but then one day I had to drive the thing. I love it now, to me it felt like a cross between a mobility scooter and a high performance go-kart, it's fun and very easy to drive.

My grandmother has a 1.3 auto. I've not driven it much but I decided when driving it that you can do a lot worse.

Remember that they are actually really small. It's not a Focus competitor, it's smaller than a fiesta. The Yaris has a sliding rear bench seat, so you can either have rear passengers or stuff in the boot really.

Thank guys, I also been looking at the Honda Civic, unfortunately i can't afford the new model. At most, a 05 plate one, which most has 50k on the clock, and it looks quite dated and I don't like where that gear stick is at! It would be a good car i am sure but it seems a Yaris for the money would be a better spec car for the money? Insurance group 3 vs 6 on the Civic too.

That seems too cheap Raymond. Just looking around autotrader and doing a quick parkers price check, that looks to be about £500-£800 too cheap. I'd say they weren't giving the full picture.

Basically I got £5k to get a car on the road (inc tax & insurance), so £4,000 to £4,200 is my limit to buy the car.

That one does seem too good to be true, i like to colour too!

Bad...

- No Cruise/6th Gear (at least on the '04 1.0ltr) - it does your head in over 60MPH with the engine sounding like it's being butchered.

It is quite loud when the car is at 70mph and the the revs are just touching under 4k.

A very tall car, it catches the slightest wind too easily. Compared to my Elise which is very streamlined and could drive it in a Hurricane perfectly!

Comparing an Elise to a Yaris, lol. But he does have a point, it does catch wind to easily. Somewhat annoying.

Clutch pedal is very soft

Clutch pedal is very light. Holding it in bite, you do need to give quite a bit of gas, or it will stall.

Reverse gear is sometimes difficult to get (often have to retry the shift 2-3 times)

Noticed this with mine too, don't know why that is.

Air-con is a MUST (from a Yaris that doesn't have it)

Haven't really used the cars aircon, tried it once, it's ok.

You cannot hold the car on the 'bite' for a hillstart; it will either stall or roll. There is not enough torque there. (probably only on the 1.0ltr engine that I have)

Giving more gas usually helps this.

How about these 2?

Ideally I like the 5 door one, it has 5 doors, 2007, lower miles, and even closer to home to pick up. Only down side is that it is slightly over budget (but i can afford it)

or this one which really blows my budget by £500

I don't think i am going to let the "easily catch the wind" to be a reason not to get a car like this...it's a hatch back, i am sure something like the Fiat 500 will catch more wind than a Lotus as well! So will a Merc A Class etc.

Also what are PAS,and Trip computer?

Having never bought a car before, if i decide to get one privately off Autotrader. What exactly do I do?

I am guessing....

1 - arrange viewing
2 - get a load of cash from the bank in 50s? or do I get a banker's draft? or do you guys do online transfer right there in person online?
3 - arrange insurance for a day or a proper
yearly one?

And when you are there....how do I complete the paper work and what kind of paperwork am I after?

Oh, i guess I should get a HPI check even if the ad says HPI clear I take it? Can never be too careful and all that.

PAS is Power Assisted Steering. Trip computer is a little computer that will show things like MPG and distance between fillups, stuff like that.

Lol Elise is my other vehicle so can only compare between the two.

I appreciate what you're saying about holding on clutch on inclines but it really doesn't work - the clutch and accelerator are not precise enough and/or this early 04 1.0 isn't powerful enough to do so. More accelerator will move the car - less will stall; there is no middle ground :(

Sounds like your clutch control needs some work

You either suck or you need a new clutch, my girlfriend manages to hold her 03 plate 1.0 on an incline just fine without moving or stalling :p

Found the car that I want, in the colour tha ti want, with the miles that is BETTER than I expected.

A bit over budget but I could just pay insurance monthly instead of lump sum, road tax won't be much on this.

167 miles from my postcode though it says, long way to go just to see a car.

1.3L Yaris
