Hey,

As title really, anyone around here that multiboxes in WoW?

I started dualboxing a rogue/priest combo about a year ago, went really well till guilds started going fubar at the release of BC. I've always felt there was more to the game than just controlling one character through quests/instances/grinding so when the addiction struck a new level i moved onto 3 boxing, and well... once you hit 3 the urge was just too great to ignore the full party of characters so moved quickly upto 5 boxing

Apart from the major slow down in gaining levels its been quite fun so far, re-learning old instances to cope with controlling dps/healing, i got my team of 5 shamans upto lvl 22 yesturday.

Here's a pic of the team about to spank the last boss in wailing caverns: HERE
Also one of me being a little attention ***** in org :p : HERE

no no, its cool. One of the first things you realise when you start multiboxing is *everyone* has their opinion tis just some are more vocal than others.

I cant quite put my finger on the exact reason why i multibox, i just felt gimped just playing 1 character. playing the game controlling 2 felt better, and well... 5 just adds onto the challenge.

lol i find it funny,

I multi boxed on eve using trial accounts when mining to use the trial client as a hauler.

But on wow, well "wow" lol dunno what to say, how can you control 5 toons at once? by the time you have switched to the other screen to heal 1 toon, its already dead lol.

When you get to lvl 70 look me up lol could do with some help with the epic mount quests :D

Seems a bit daft on the face of it imo.

You could put that time and energy into getting recognised and getting in a good guild. Anyway I quit ages ago and good ridance.

5 other shammies, multiboxed by some goon.

Yeah i have had thoughts of a pvp team involving 4 warlocks and a priest.

Controlling each of them isnt too much of a problem, its mainly done through one keyboard and mouse.

Bit of software allows me to keep scrolling the mouse across screens like they were connected to one pc and the keyboard keys get broadcasted over the network where they are macro'd to /assist functions on the other boxes. Took a bit of time getting setup and ready but its going great.

Do you use Synergy to do this ?

I started with synergy but found it being a pain on screens i hadnt scrolled to in a while - major mouse lag for about 10 seconds. I was using multibox aswell as synergy at the time for the keyboard broadcasting but since i found out multibox could handle the mouse aswell (without the lag) i've now switched to that.

I did contemplate that but a lot of AoE grinding is done through close directional spells (cone of cold) or right clicking where you want the AoE to go down (blizzard) which is just too hard when 4 of the 5 are facing wherever /follow is making them and right clicking on each screen and targeting - although possible with mouse broadcasting each screen has to be identical for it to work :s

Only main option that springs to mind would be arcane explosion / fire blast every thing to death.

so I guess you have 2 pay 5 subs for that so like £50 a month?

Yup pretty much, tis a little expensive hobby. Only managed to twist my own arm into getting the 5 was down to not having a similar cost mobile phone contract and not many major outgoings once the usual stuff has come out the account at the start of the month.

So can you actually competently clear level 70 dungeons then? Do you need to use 5 of the same class so all of the spells\skills etc work or is it individual control from 1 input device?

Sounds pretty cool, not that I have the hardware, the time or the will to set it up! :p

Not quite, only level 22 at the moment, but i've been clearing out the instances so far without many problems once i'm around the same level as the mobs in there. I know of 2 routes you can take to handling instances multiboxing:

1) Learn conventional grouping: Control a healer, tank and 3 dps classes... Quite hard and tricky to keep an eye on your life, heal yourself and tank mobs at the same time as laying down dps and crowd control with the other classes but possible.

2) Direct damage: As the screenshot above, throw down enough direct damage fast to kill groups of mobs before they all swarm you and you stand a chance of killing what ever gets close to hurt you. Shamans have a little advantage of a earth guardian that acts like a tank for upto 2 mins or till he dies.

I really doubt i'll go so far as to multibox 10, although add the hardware + accounts and it wont be far off 5 boxing... i'll just have a right arm like schwarzenegger with the amount of mouse scrolling i'll have to do to go around the screens :D

So levelling a holy priest, protection warrior, a mage, balance druid and lock etc just isn't going to happen?

Could definatly do it, personally i'd go for the extra mage rather than balance druid - its just if you can handle doing those 4 things at once, rather than just burning mobs down before they reach your group.
