Anyone here seen a shuttle launch?

As in being physically there?

The missus and I are looking to go to Florida next year and though this is way in advance I was hoping to go when a shuttle launch is planned.

So the first question is, can anyone find me some stats on planned compared to the actual launch days, would hate to go and then the launch be put back for weather. Secondly if anyone has been yes of course it will be a 'look up and there it is' job, but what is it like getting to the site? Are there visitors facilities, famous locations to watch from etc?

Well I mean if on average launches are delayed by a week, it'd be okay, but if it's longer I'll know not to get my hopes up!

I saw one launch a few years ago.. I think it was due to launch 2-3 weeks before I was in Florida and got delayed a couple of times.. lucky for me

I don't think it was weather that delayed the one I saw though

I saw one in 1996 (I didn't realise it was that far back until just now!). We didn't get to the official spot we were supposed to watch from because the traffic was so poor (we were on a tour organised by our virgin holidays rep), but we still saw it and it was pretty cool (although short).

yup, pretty cool. Traffic was horrific. Loads of people turn up to watch it
