Anyone here work in F1?

I did most of the 2016 season with FOM, at pretty much every track Canada to the end of the season. If you have some generic questions I may be able to answer them?

Race team specific would be much harder :D

I know at least one person that works at McLaren. Now that I've mentioned his name he may get gagged and thrown in the cleaning cupboard though :D @DiCe!

I applied for a job :D

But the twist is I didn't know which company I was applying for. It was through an agency and the spiel said something along the lines of "our client is involved in high end motorsport...." so I thought it sounded interesting and applied!
 
Sweet, do you still work there? From your reply it sounds like it was a short term contract?

Any interesting stories you can share without getting yourself in trouble :)
 
No I don't work there anymore. I was a victim of the Liberty Media take over, last in first out in the department unfortunately! I was a permanent employee.

O gosh, I have some very fond memories. One of the best was listening to the chat between Alonso and the Director when he took over the camera in Brazil. I had the pleasure of having all of the onboard feeds at all times during any track action due to the job I did. Also got to do a huge amount of laps of the circuits testing our equipment, not at high speed of course (health and safety and all that jazz).

But with the memories, there was a huge amount of work in some very challenging conditions. So much personal life sacrifice to do the job. I am glad I have done it, but probably wouldn't want to ever go back.
 
i know a few,
A good friend does failure analysis and stuff for Mercedes, one of my best friends did telemetry data management for them but left after the first year as merc (he was there for BAR/honda/Braun etc. now hes at a bank)
My ex's new fella works for Williams now i think hes a carbon layout guy and I know a couple of IT guys at redbull. and one guy whos at Hass now doing some sort of database stuff not sure what.

Its funny when they are all round at a BBQ talking, I wish id listened to them the year Braun stormed the championship i could have made some money at the bookies.
 
Not quite the same, but I’ve done some work for formula 1 teams. I went to Mercedes and Caterham, I have been to Red Bull every year for the last few years. McLaren are also a customer of ours but I’ve never been there, I believe Force India also but again never visited.

No just MK mate. I’m from Sheffield but now live in MK. Commuted down for 3.5 years before I moved though, used to stay in B&B’s etc. Suppose that shows how good a place it is to work :).

Mind if I ask what work you carry out and how you got involved? certainly seems like an interesting job working in motorsport
