Anyone In or Joining the Army?

Well Im joining the navy - mainly because I dont know what to do with myself.

Ill get to see the world and have all the experiences and stuff and thats what Im really joining for. Maybe consider the navy before the army? :)

Dude if you don't have a degree you can get the Army to pay for it, if money is an issue, try for TA and if you like it, after you are done with your degree you can go in full time.:)

Royal Military Police

Dude I am not saying anything against you, I just have this hate rooted inside me for the MP....

The army are paying for my degree - I just have to extend my contract to 5 years after Uni finishes.

Anyway, the army is awesome. Join it now.

Hi there

Im hoping to join the army i want to get into the ColdStream Guards regiment, and i cant wait:D
Ive made a thread somewhere on here, ill go find it and bump it so you can have a read:)

What is the increased pay for people with degrees? On the site it doesn't mention anything, just Officer pay rate and stuff, but nothing on degrees. The reason why I want to do it is, I don't want to work in I.T anymore, I want to have a active life and make a difference.

As far as I'm aware having a degree only counts if you're going in as an Officer. If it's the same as the RAF then...

People with degrees start Sandhurst on 2nd Lieutenant pay, and go up to full Lieutenant on graduation. Non-graduates start on Officer Cadet, then graduate on 2nd Lieutenant. That's if their pay scales work the same, which I think they do.

However, those in the ranks do not receive a benefit for having a degree.

thats not compleatly true, some people have gone up through the first few ranks slightly quicker then others because of having a degree. I dont know how common that is, but it does happen, and chances are its only for the technical trades with a degree in a similar field.

army quality of life is pretty crap compared to RAF+NAVY, in the sense that their accom is skanky.
RAF gets the best, and navy has some hit+miss, but you'v got the chance of sailing around the world in the navy(quality if you're on one of the decent ships on a decent tour)

Not only do you get payrises over the years you also get bonuses for staying in for certain periods of time. Plus you can claim a grant to help pay a deposit on your house(assuming you are not on property market)
Forces is generally brilliant life, i envy my siblings for joining instead of getting degrees.
Im the one doing a degree yet im the complete bum. My best mate has such an easy life in the RAF too, though hes not really going anywhere, whereas they are.

Whats the minimum number of years you have to serve? Also wouldn't you never meet any females if your in a foreign country for years.

You dont really stay anywhere for YEARS.. theyll fly/ship you home for periods. Theres a few nice females in the forces, although very few ;)
Why wouldnt you meet females abroad?? England isnt the only place habitable for the witches you know
