Anyone into RC planes? FPV recording etc.

As this is by far the geekiest forum I'm a member of I thought it would be the best place to gain some knowledge about RC planes. :D

I've just seen this video on YouTube of a RC plane mounted with a GoPro camera that has a range of 30km! How much would something like that set me back and what gear would I need to invest in??

And are they difficult to fly? Would I just end up crashing and totalling it on it's maiden flight?

Not planes but I am currently building a UAV Quadcopter which I plan to put FPV on.

The transmitter range on that will be roughly 8-9km. Would need a large battery for that sort of flight time though.

To get 30km sort of range you would have to spend a lot of money I reckon.
 
Seen a video a few months ago with 2 delta wingls flying together, both with gopro camera mounted. It was really imressive and something I would love to try out when funds become a little less tight.

Restrictions on freqency in the uk seem to be a lot harsher though.
 
Where did you get your quad copter from mr peri peri?
Looking for a decent UK supplier of RC planes and transmitters etc. already got a GoPro I can use for it. Is electric generally seen as more cost effective than petrol engines?

you or a spotter has to be able to see the aircraft at all times in this country to.

your not allowed to fly near build up areas either
 
There is a YouTube channel for the right wing zerphr its called, the dude does loads of vids. Certainly wet my lips for POV and looks amazing

I recently discovered Arduino controllers and started some projects using them.

I had planned on building an Arducopter (Quadcopter with Arduino flight controller - in conjunction with GPS, compass and various other sensors it can operate as a UAV) but I found one going second hand for a good price so I bought that and have stripped it down to rebuild and upgrade a few parts.

I have used HobbyKing (based in Asia) to buy some stuff as they just can't be beaten on some prices - so that's a good resource if you don't mind the longer delivery times. For a UK based retailer Giant Shark is worth a look. I think they key is to decide on the model / plane you want and then just shop around a bit for the best price.

Not sure in terms of petrol vs. electric to be honest.

I really want to treat myself to an FPV setup. I'll be looking at it in January.

Is there any way to mount two cameras for proper 3d through a visor headset?
