Isn't the membrane the part thats supposed to stop the damp? If there's a large overhang like you have, surely any rain will run down the wall and use the top of the membrane as a vehicle to permiate the wall over the top of it?
Call your dad a master builder of 45 years. Such bodge job on a garage conversion i wouldnt trust him to lay a brick. He should know better than to leave the building in that state. He should have applied for building regs/pp. You got a problem of either rising damp or penerating damp or both! But its hard to tell from pictures Get a surveyor out he sort the problem out..... I dont charge to much
He tells me now he knows where the waters coming in, something to do with next doors garage that he's been told he's allowed to do what he wants with.
A bit peeved off it's a bit of a "leave it till he complains about it" thing but i respect he's been busy with other things. Talking about putting something on the floor (don't know if it's under or over the membrane) and sorting out what ever problem it is with next doors garage.
