As my project's almost done now (just got to wait until the weather clears up to give it a wash and polish) I'll be booking it in for it's MOT next week.

I've got absolutely no idea what's involved in a car MOT, let alone a bike one (never owned anything long enough to put anything in for an MOT before)

I've heard that I don't need to worry about emissions on it and that noise levels are discretionary but that's about it.

Can anyone tell me the things to check before I book it? I've spent weeks fixing it and I'd be devastated if it failed :(

noise levels are testers discression.

indicators and mirrors have to work if fitted.

needs a horn.

if going for a full mot it needs a rear reflector, rear lights and a headlight.

just your usual stuff really... it's straight, brakes work etc...

depending on who you take it too they will fail race cans.

It's an E marked Laser can, stupendously loud for a 400 but it's passed with it on before so I'm hoping it'll pass again ;)

Lights etc are all there and working, I just need to sort out the timing on the indicators as I replaced them for LED's and can't seem to get it quite right :(

Cheers for the link ste, 'tis a good read

i had a bike with diddy led brake lights, a rear reflector and a foglight in the front. no indicators, mirrors, legal exhaust, or legal plate. also brake lights only worked on the front brake as it had rearsets.

:)

passed fine....

Just make sure you have a sticker over the engraved bit that says not for road use on the race can and they can't fail it, never had a problem that way myself.

Also I just had a traffic cop come up to me the other day when i was parking up the bike and told me that in future I should put a cariier bag over my naughty rear plate as by law they can't remove it to inspect what's underneath(of course only applies to parked vehicles) interesting info I thought.

very true about the parked bikes. :)

i have a race can on my bike but the mfr very kindly put a carbon fibre bit over the race use only bit! :)

you dont need mirrors/indicators etc but if they are present they must work. so if it dont work - just take it off and it cant fail.
