Anyone know about the process for obtaining a CSCS card?

I've done labouring before and have agency alerts on my mobile so I figured it would be quick route back into work. I just need a CSCS card and the job center said that I would need to find out how to obtain one off my own back, and that if I could prove I had a permanent job offer then they might pay for it (not the most important aspect).

Read that but I'm feeling like I need to phone them up to ask where to find my local training/test center.

Any idea which test I should apply for?

Its changed since I got my last CSCS card (in fact 1st Oct was latest change to date).

I've got this book:

CITB Health, Safety and environment test dated 01/14, is it still good?

Judging by from what I've read recently you just slip an examiner a bit of cash and they give you one

Ugh, CSCS card was a pain to get for me. Can never remember what the different colour fire extinguishers are!

Cost me £30 at first for the green card and done it through a test center which also covered theory driving tests.

Got a blue one now which cost me another £30! skilled for nvq level 2 in construction.

It's pretty easy just common sense mainly.

The actual test is a doodle. Getting sensible advice on which cars to apply for is a different matter.

My impression of CSCS is that the organisation that run it are a bunch of jokers. There's nothing in the test that shouldn't be covered by a decent site induction.

The general labourer one is circa 30 quid iir, it'll get you on site and after that nobody really gives a ****.

Simple health and safety questions that anyone with common sense could pass.

I wouldn't call "explain the acronym COSHH" "common sence", its this type of question that if you simply don't know its not something a 1/4 chance with multi-answer tests will help with.

I did this sample test and passed:

Of the answers I got wrong it wasn't easy to find out the correct answer. In fact some of the answers I was googling. Like "sack barrow" is what I would describe as a porter trolley. I believe one of the questions was "What is the proper distance between a guard and handrail of scaffolding."

I had to do my visitors (yellow) CSCS card and it really was the simplest thing I have ever had to do. Just a case of doing the exam which you may a small amount for.

Id practice previous tests as the q's are 90% Easy and the odd one about handrailing lengths etc. No idea on standard colour, mines white for academically qualified site worker
