We had to write the formula for a calculator. But I think in binary there is no subtraction?

There's nothing to stop you doing subtraction in binary, but iirc for computing purposes it's sometimes done by adding the ones complement (1s and 0s inverted) of the number you are subtracting to the number you are subtracting from, then adding any carryover digits.... So yeah not very intuitive
