I have just installed Opera as I thought I would give it a bash.

The trouble is, when I test the ping times via Speedtest, I get very high latencies of around 217ms whereas in Firefox I have it down to 34ms.

Can I do any edits in Opera to drop the latency?

Ta. :)

I'm not all clued up on this stuff.

It seems that the time it takes for Opera to receive the packets is slower than what Firefox takes.

I tried it with Safari & IE and get an average of 40-42ms.

I tweaked the MTU settings and got better results with all browsers apart from Opera again.

The network is run via Homeplugs and the latency is 1ms from pc to router so the network seems fine.

Never heard of that much difference between browsers and I agree that it shouldn't matter what browser you use.

In Opera are their proxies configured at all ?

Are you using speedtest for these ping times? My best guess out of nowhere is speedtest uses flash which isn't guessing things properly with opera. To find out your actual ping use ping in the command prompt.
