Anyone know much about Cornwall?

Camborne/Redruth/Pool crew checking in. It's a hole but I'm from Swindon so I'm used to it.

I can't believe people are suggesting Newquay as a "nice place to go"
It has to be one of the most tacky towns I can think of.
Yes it's a bustling place with lots going on but it doesn't sum up what Cornwall is about IN THE SLIGHTEST. It's akin to Blackpool of the south.. Just NO.

Stick to the smaller villages and towns on the coast, St'Ives, Padstow, Lamorna cove, Trevose head, The Lizard etc and you wont go far wrong. "most of it" is beautiful.

Personal recommendation for a "retreat" would be Polurrian Bay on the Lizard. Beautiful cliff top hotel and fantastic secluded Private beach.

moved hear 16 months ago, lots to see and do, but I do miss the city a little.

There are much rougher places than Camborne and redruth in the world, lots of grande old houses in both places.

If you like fishing there are loads of charters to consider. Loads of trails on the coast, lots natural food walks, forage and feed. Kayaking as already suggested. theres the roseland to drive too, and the king harry ferry to take. Also there is Truro which is a tiny city but its all we have. still its a nice place. probably the most modern place in the whole county.

On a rough wet and windy day, go to porthleven, the waves get unbelievably big. St Ives is another nice place to visit. Logan's Rock is also another place to go if you like sitting and looking out to see/walking. Marazion is nice, at low tide you can walk out to St Michael's Mount. Go to Hayle, just outside St Ives, just for the pasties. Philps pasties. You won't miss it. Carry on through Hayle and you will see directions for Godrevy, there you can see about 50+ Seals just sat on the beach (look for the cliff top with the wooden posts). Gunwalloe is a nice area with a fantastic pub and you can normally see seals and dolphins from the beach. The cafe at the end of the lizard is very nice with great food overlooking the see and the walks around that area are good.

As said, unless you have already been to Land's End, avoid it. Far too touristy.

:)

I'd recommend porthcurno which is probably my favourite beach in Cornwall and the minack theatre is definitely worth a visit if the weather is nice. Had such an amazing time there last year.

Really depends what you want out of Cornwall... If you're young and want a lairy night out then newquay fits the bill, but there are far far nicer places.

I used to spend much of my summers in newquay as a teenager (15-20 years or so back) before it became the hell hole it is now.
Mostly stay at Polzeath and surrounding area now but generally avoid Cornwall completely during summer hols.
What's quite depressing is seeing just how many bars and pubs are closing down - I know its a problem all over the country but many decent post surf watering holes are long gone :-(
The second surf school opening on polzeath beach is also not a good sign as it just means the beach will get even more stupidly overcrowded forcing trips in the car to lesser known breaks..

Anyway I digress. Plenty of fab places in Cornwall - where to go strongly depends on whether you want to surf/do water sports and what sort of night life you're after.

Mousehole is a nice traditional Cornish fishing village if you want something with a bit of a rustic feel. There's a bus service to Newlyn, Penzance etc.

I you like cider I'd recommend a visit to Healey's Cyder farm.
