Anyone know of a better contract than this?

In simple, it will start affective from your next billing date. So my case, my billing date is the 11th each month.

Did you just call upgrades sho? Not that I tried too much but all I was offered is the 200 mins/400 texts for £15 a month

For starters, i have abeen a o2 contract customer for abour 4 years if im right.
I handed a 30 days notice and they gave my PAC Code. Beginning of August i got a call from Retention department (contract was finishing on the 11th). So i rang back, i dont like it when they call me. First the person over the phone offered me 200mins and 400 text for £10 as i stated i didn't need a phone. i didn't accepted that offer.

So he asked what are you after, i said around about 200 mins and about 200 text and i need web bolt on. After putting me on hole for about 5 mins he came back saying you can have 250mins 400 text and Web bolt for £5 a month. And i did ask, £5 a month right? Thats all im gona get billed every month? No hidden charges? (i did record the conversation though) He said no. Sweet. It's a £25 tarrif so i got £20 discount. So i aint complaining. I dont think i'll get a better offer anywhere else imo.

So i took the offer.

You were robbed, bloke I work with got a 12 month contract free from retentions on sim only with 200 minutes and texts, that said he was on £75 a month tarrif before that.

Joking aside it's a good deal. Perosnally i've just got the £35 iphone tarrif with a tenner off each month and free wifi bolt on and £25 credit ontop of the free N95 and £90 credit + £50 cash back on an 18 month contract I took out in December. Best of all this doesn't extend my contract but enables me to take the 3G iPhone upgrade before October for £99 without extending the contract. So with £115 in credit, £50 cashback, £180 in discount and a free bolt on each month + the money from selling the XDA Orbit, N95, estimated sale price of iPhone V1 i'll be on track to have paid less than £8 a month for my contract and still have a 3G iPhone to flog so may well end up having made money out of my contract. Next upgrade is May 09 so roll on the next haggling oppertunity!
