Evening courses at university 1 term or 1 year courses?

I would love to in my spare time get to use the universities tools and components in their workshop to build little devices.

Do you know of any courses

are they costly or free?

Your local college will probably do evening courses, I'd give them a ring or send them an email, I doubt it will cost the earth...

What are you planning to build?

If you want a bit of a mixture do an HNC or HND in Mechatronics. It covers Electronics, Electrics, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanics and Computer Control/Coding. I did the HND a number of years ago, was very enjoyable.

Most universities will offer their courses on a part-time basis, some with distance learning too.

Many thanks for your reply

The problem is I haven't got any qualifications and I heard you need at least GCSE or A levels to take the mechatronics course!

I really would like to learn this subject as I have always wanted to invent a product. I have lot's of great ideas but have no experience in actually making them. My dream would be to learn how to go about and create a device that is part electrical, part mechanical and works using a piece of software that I could program. Then patent and hopefully bring to market. Are there any part time 1 year evening courses where I could learn all that without needing any qualifications?

Many thanks in advance

Most universities will give you a leg up if you are a mature student - how old are you DVDBunny?

If that is your goal, night classes for GCSE and A Level, then College from there! No goal is too big! (unless it's world domination - that's an advanced night course).

Where you from in the country? Would help us pin down a college / uni / night course place for you - least help you anyway :)

Also your description of what you wanted to make made me chuckle - kind of encapsulated most devices today :p

I am based in London

I really don't want to do GCSE and A level or go to college. Well I just want to learn simple electronics so I can build simple devices

Maybe go down to your local book store - see if they can recommend books? That is usually first port of call - maybe a "...For Dummies" book and some beginners electronic guides?

Maybe a college course would be a good idea? Have a helping hand - wouldn't be too much I am sure.
