In this age of computers, we just cannot write like that any more.

It just isn't efficient - I was taught to write like that but I pretty much never do infact I seem to be getting worse and worse for scribbling shapes that resemble the words close enough people should be able to tell from looking at it rather than take the time to form the individual letters - unless I'm writing something formal :s
