Hi,

Was trying to help a mate out at the weekend to connect his xbox 360 to live, and the way we were trying was by using a crossed cable to directly connect the xbox and the pc together, with the pc having its internet connection shared.

The two connected fine and the xbox got an IP address OK, the problem was that when you did the live test connection the xbox was complaining about DNS or something??

Is it even possible to connect to live this way or were we missing something?

Any help appreciated

Very possible, i done it for a whle before getting the wireless card.

The easiest way IMO to do it is this. If the router has a DMZ, then assign the DMZ an IP address, then set a static IP on the 360 to use the IP of the DMZ. This will allow the 360 to bypass any and all port restrictions that are in effect on the router. Ive done it for over a year trouble free.

Cheers for the replys... but Stellios - yours has confused me a little lol

We weren't using a router? We were just linking it directly to his pc, and his pc was connected to the net via a usb modem...

I'm sure its some setting we were missing though

Oh, i do apologise, i was replying under the assumption you were using a router. It wont work with a normal modem :)

Have you tried disabling all the firewalls? Just to double check its not a firewalling issue.

Have a check through THIS just to be sure you have done it correctly. Also, you should have all of your IP setting on the 360 to assign its own settings, so dont be setting any IP addresses yourself.

this is exactly how my xbox is connected to live i just bridged a connection on my pc i think dont think i'm using a crossover cable though i just stole a 20m one from work.

mine didnt work using a usb modem - had to switch to ethernet to get it running - then i got the wirless bridge to stop the headaches

Cheers you've all been great help :)

Will give it another go next time I go round (have forwarded him the MS links so he can have a go himself as well!)

Many thanks
