Anyone live in Newbury?

Not for long.....

They're planning to bulldoze a large part of it and put up a 15,000 home estate, 1.5 times the size of Lower Earley... you know, because of this housing shortage thing.... despite having a stack of unoccupied houses and office buildings that could be used as flats.

Really? That sucks :(

I live in Chineham and it is already a pain to travel up the A33 towards Reading.

Bit further north than I am. We just had a small development in our village that is unpopular enough. They won't let anything else around here for some time :)

That's a combination of the M4 junctions and the road "improvements" on the main A33 past the stadium... which basically means they hold up the traffic for so long, people forget the days when it wasn't chocka, and when they're done the traffic starts flowing which seems like an improvement to those short of memory.

I'm originally from Reading, and still work there - but now live in Tadley (keep the jokes to yourselves, locals!) - so I am pretty well located for Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury. Of the Three, Newbury is in my opinion the middle ground - not quite as "well equipped" as Reading, but a nicer place to be if a little boring. The transport links are good, but the traffic can be painful at rush hour, especially if the M4 is broken (as it regularly is) - however you have a LOT of options for bypassing the motorway in to Reading, getting the train from a different station, or even dare I say it a bus.Check places near some of the smaller stations on the Newbury part of the branch line also, Thatcham, Midgam, Aldermaston - to my eye, the closer you get to the dreaded AWE Aldermaston, the lower the house prices get - at least that how I can afford to live here!

We need some sort of Berkshire/ West Berkshire meet up :)
Yes!

What, you mean Racoon City, Aldermaston? That place is flippin' HUGE.... and with pretty much a single road, the traffic is dire. I had to sit in it a few weeks back and that was before they slapped roadworks on it!!
We're rather near the Bugfield* one, though I thought the rent prices were due to other circumstances... like no heating and being woken by farmers ploughing fields at 3am.

I will concede, whatever Thames Water are doing to that road ruins the route in to Reading. I tend to head up toward the A4 on backroads though - so don't often hit it. I thought the rent on my place was cheap because of all the glowing squirrels and the fact that every other person around here seems to think its somehow possible for the site to explode like a scene in Aliens :p

Replacing five old and knackered water mains, and repairing leaks on three other mains. Should be finished around 20th November.
I do NOT envy that particular work crew.....!!

Is it??!!
Cool, sign me up - I already have the Pulse Rifle for it. Just need an android artificial person, a Dropship and an 11 year old blonde girl...
Aliens is one of my favourite films!

I lived in Tadley for a bit! You've got a swimming pool and Reading Warehouse - not all bad.

I want the M577 APC, that would sort traffic out - and likewise, all time classic.

I have come to quite like it to be honest, it doesn't stop my mates asking if I have grown a 6th digit on each hand yet though :D
