I looking into making some home made yoghurt and kefir, thought I'd get into it as I'm on a bit of a home make/bake/grow drive.

So any others who like making them, I'd welcome any advice. I'm looking forward to making some frozen yoghurt in the end.

Not sure why you need a thermometer i have never used one and make a batch each week. Just keep reusing the same last bits of the previous batch.
I skim the liquid off as well for a thicker yoghurt.

How we do it at home too, and we tend to make it weekly. It's a bit more 'sour' than the stuff you buy in tubs but that's the way I like it

When you end up making the frozen yoghurt, try mixing in some Mango pulp/thick nectar before freezing it. Tastes amazing :D I've found that Oriental shops tend to sell large cans of the good stuff on the cheap.

Sorry, the pics in my old thread are long dead.

I only make it from time to time because I broke my decent Thermos and the replacement is rubbish. I did find that you can use any of those Activia yoghurts as well.

We have a little yoghurt maker that we got from Lakeland (I think). Very simple to use and makes excellent yoghurt. It's fun to experiment with using various different types of milk; my favorite is to use evaporated milk - it makes an extremely thick and creamy yoghurt.

Evaporated milk sounds delicious but rather sickly. I'm going to be using raw milk for the most part which I'm looking forward too, also got some kefir grains coming too.
