I just tried out the soft rock setting on my xonar STX and wow... everything sounds much better than before, all the other effects sounded strange, the soft rock setting is awesome! I think its a bit like the crystalizer on the x-fi i had years ago.

Anyone else play with the EQ settings and prefer it to the bog standard default?

bog standard default for me, i dont like how the sound changes when picking an eq.
i tried the metal eq on my xonar before and it made the music sound bad lol

Soft rock definately sounds the best for me! Made a few of my own with old eq settings on past sytems i've had and to be honest it doesn't seem to perform like other eq's??
One question I have is the sample rate: 44, 48, 96 or 192?
Well pleased with the Xonar d2x and AE speakers!

Completely flat/no processing at home with the hifi, in the car however, my car pc has a multiband broadcast compressor running - makes everything sound like Radio 1 - which for my car is well suited as there is a lot of background noise and i'm certainly not listening for quality.

yes i do, because flat doesnt mean its right. however, on the pc i dont use any soundcard driver-based EQ's. if im going to eq on the pc, i'll use a decent plugin for foobar and do it properly. I dont do that personally, i use my amp for the equalisation.

its a great big dirty fail saying you use nothing and keep it flat because its 'authentic'. I guess that means your speakers are perfectly flat and your listening environment is an example of acoustical perfection also? let's not mention your EARS either...... Source flat = yes, but not the entire system.

I sometimes flatten the response using pink noise and some RTA software but usually have to flatten it again for an event not long after so I've not bothered for a while.

I've found I usually get a more pleasing sound just doing it by ear though, accurate or not.
