Anyone noticed this?

No but making sense would be a good start. Using a word, which describes the male sex, in their adult years in the middle of a sentence makes no sense.

It's a salutation, and is not meant to infer meaning but set a background for the way in which the protagonist percieves and addresses his audience.

Have you never called someone 'sir' before?

In the correct context, yes. Where El has used it, it is out of place, and to me is being used as a ganster word, to portray himself. Vicky Pollard uses Isit and Innit out of context and is widely laughed at for it.

Kell_ee001 - Haha! Your response has again amused me.

I find rather amusing. I guess writing out "I have nothing else to add to my random statement, I don't really know what my point is and I hope some big strong man will come and defend my point for me" is a bit long to write :D

No. Far from it. Im getting tired of having to explain myself over and over, over some things i regularly say.

**sigh** No it wasnt out of place and No, aint trying to potray nothing - It is a habit and reading more into it (on your path) is just childish.

I dont see the problem, El is simply typing his sentences in the style in that he talks. I bet as he types he is reading out aloud in his head. I do it myself, as I am typing this sentence I am saying it in my head and pretty much typing the way I would speak to your face. We're not really pining for liingual and written perfection here are we?

Nah you smelled wrong! I smell some name on those list are not liked and also to prevent people asking why etc.

"Word" - WTF does that mean!?

Since no one else appears to have tried to explain this one - as I understand it, it often comes from a contraction of "word up" but can be used to express agreement, acknowledgement, that you are stating the truth or as a greeting alternatively as ElRazur is using it almost like saying "peace out". :)

//edit I would have thought gob***** probably counts as swearing though so maybe editing would be a good idea.

Yeah i guess... ho hum I wont mention them again. I miss the input of some of those unmentionables.... :(

I think for the most part the usual faces that appear in each section are due to those individuals having an interest and good knowledge of that particular subject.
I wouldn't say that they 'own' the section and I'm fairly sure in most cases that if you were to produce a valid case against something they said, you would at least be recognised and validated, even if you didn't change their oppinion.

That is after all the essence of debate and the backbone of the forums.

However, I do think in GD specifically, the above isn't always the case.

I wouldn't say that anyone 'owns' GD but there are a select few (who have already been mentioned) who will crop up time and again regarding specific topics. I have made my oppinion on these topics and the people involved before, and took a holiday for expressing my oppinion. I will admit that the way I expressed that oppinion was wrong, and I accept the punishment, but I still believe I was right. As a result I no longer bother to contribute to those topics.

The other half of GD involves threads that attract the usual crowd, like this one, but I like this kind of discussion because it's usually fairly well balanced and is often in good humour.

I spend most of my time in Photography now because there is no bitching, helpful people and a good atmosphere. It's also a subject that I find myself more and more interested in.

A few years ago my main section was motors, but I've spent less time in there since my interest in cars has dwindled.

I always come back to GD because of the wide range of topics covered but I have noticed recently that it's been taking a fair load of subjects more suitable to SC.
