Having had a cold winter and paying a fortune for gas I`m considering upgrading heating, my questions are, roughly how old is this kit, boiler and radiators, AND if I upgrade will I see a significant performance increase?, ie; will I be warmer and will warmth per £ be reduced by what % ?, I know the question is dependent on many variables unique to my circumstance but opinions welcome, esp from people with experience. Thanks.

boiler

radiator

radiator

Shoudl be a serial/model number somewhere on it mate.
If you take that and phone WB they'll tell you exactly how old it is.
Looks fairly old like lol

and those radiators look like they've been painted a fair few times too :p

Argh not another old Worcester boiler, we have one in the rented house and it is on the verge of failing, it's only good at heating water out of the taps. I would have said 10-15 years old.

thanks for the replies, yes Ive got the serial to mail WB to get definitive age, manual mentions 1994 regs or something so must be post 94, anyone upgraded and noticed huge improvement?

Those radiators must be 25 to 30 years old.

I swear by Valiant boilers. had mine 10 years, never broke down yet, as for radiators, I use Kudox brand from Screwfix, they come with a 15 year warranty.

In my last place I installed some Kudox radiators some 20 years earlier when I first moved in, not one had failed when I moved two years ago.

Good old worcester boilers going on forever.

Looks like a 24cdi which was discontinued in 2005

I've just renovated a house to sell and found that screwfix were by far the cheapest for rads. Some doubles were cheaper than double+'s

It's the same with copper tube, I been buying 15mm 'Black Label 3mtrs @ £9:95p from B&Q, cheaper than I can get it from city plumbing, etc.

Haven't had a trade account for a few years now, so I'm out of touch with trade prices.

It's true - some of the sheds will beat trade prices from the likes of City etc etc it's often worth checking their prices.

cheers for the input guys, now.......... IF I buy a combi boiler (currently thinking of Vaillant Eco Plus) how much should I expect to pay for an install?, I know every install can be different but a ballpark figure?

Depends on work the involved, that Vaillant Eco Plus is a superb boiler, same one as I have fitted here.

Buying a boiler is where city can be cheap especially if you buy a boiler pack (comes with a flue and poss a stat)

Fitting prices vary massively

Just had our boiler replaced, cost £1,400.00 and that included cylinder with immersion, programmer, 3 port valve, thermostat, chopping out dozen bricks and bricking up flue, condensate drain and some trickery in the airing cupboard to get the old system to work with the new boiler, the old one heated hot water first then central heating.

I was originally quoted £1,700.00 and said I could source the boiler for less so the plumber dropped his price to £1,400.00 supplied and fitted, took two guys one Saturday to complete.

Shop around & you can find some good prices for the ecoTEC plus 824, 831 or 837.

Last one I bought was from (mr central heating),which gave me the best boiler package deal, they have branches around the country.

and another issue (many thanks again guys for the input) I`m pretty sure my gas pipe is 15mm which I think means I need to get that upgraded to 22mm if I put new boiler in?, if so what is rough cost?
