Anyone opt for game controller on pc over mouse + KB?

Depends on the game. For FPS defo a keyboard and mouse though I have on occasion found using a controller okay. For games like survival horror or some other third person games I am 'usually' quite happy to use a pad.

I find the controller to be way more work than it is worth in shooting games. With a mouse it only takes a split second to line up your shot, with a controller I have to fiddle around. It's an endless cycle of trying to get that crosshair over the enemy, it skips over to the left, I try to nudge it over to the right and it goes too far, so I have to move at the slowest pace until it's lined up. Might only take a second or two, but the frustration just adds up after a few enemies.

This for me too.

I use a controller for racing games, and for batman, I'm still not sure whether I should use keyboard or controller. I played with controller, and got through most of the fights pretty easily, but some of the fights were really really hard (on the middle difficulty). You've just made me realise part of my problem is my inability to aim with the controller - I think I should go back to trying again with keyboard.

I can kind of take a weird enjoyment from using a gamepad in an FPS. I tried it with Crysis a few months ago. You lose the accuracy of the mouse and kb but using the joypad is bizarrely satisfying :D

Agreed. Prefer pulling off a nice shot on MW2 on Xbox than I did one deaging someone on CSS. Shocking I know. + I have decent peripherals, razer mouse mat, logi mouse and saitek keyboard!

I use mouse and keyboard for FPS games and 360 pad for everything else. The 360 pad is great, even for some shooting games it's pretty good although it can take a tad longer to aim accurately than with a mouse.
I initially used the keyboard and mouse to play Dead Space but the controls and camera sensitivity (when using mouse +kb) was so poor that I ended up buying the 360 pad :D

KB mouse for everything.
Joystick for flight, wheel for racing. (But still a keyboard for the 10s apon 10s of settings).

My beef is that if you use a console controller, they've pretty much limited the game to cater for the few buttons you have, generally it's good enough I agree.

The only genre I use gamepad is sports and even at that, it's only few specific games. For example serious racing is always with a wheel and arcade/casual driving games I feel much comfortable playing with a keyboard. 3rd person shooters, platformers, Trine, etc. all feel million times better with a keyboard+mouse. Then there's RTS and FPS genres where keyboard+mouse are the only controllers to ever even consider.

Uhh.. even thinking about using X360 interface daily makes me uncomfortable. It's so slow and clumsy to use because it's designed for gamepad..

Too bad we keyboard+mouse users are starting to become a minority. I just can't imagine people enjoy playing first person shooters with a gamepad.. I just can't imagine how anyone can enjoy that. Especially going from a mouse to a gamepad when most people actually have a choice.. impossible to understand.

I'm finding that for some games (console ports such as Mass Effect and Dead Space, or race/space games etc), I'm actually finding the 360 pad is quite good unsurprisingly I guess as the control layout was optimised for it :)

However for precise control I still have to revert to the mouse, as the joysticks feel unnatural for that level of control (about 15 attempts at shooting meteors in Deadspace with the pad and not getting anything near done, vs 2 goes with the mouse).

If the game is more normally keyboard/mouse based i'll go with that.

Use a gamepad for Gears of War, Batman AA, Mirrors Edge and any driving game. Prefer KBM for everything else that requires aiming though, Gears was the exception because it was basically the console game on the PC; - KBM controls felt horrible.

I find FPS games on the PS3 fine on a controller but on the PC i use mouse and keyboard. For 3rd person games like Batman AA, Assassin's Creed etc, I use the xbox360 controller. For driving games, again I use the controller.

+1 for 3rd persons and racers.
