Just curious as to the current time frame between ordering and delivery. I'm thinking about ordering one now the media touch panel is no longer an issue and the speakers have been improved.

If the build quality is still the same as the 1537, don't bother.. My left CTRL key has totally failed and the backspace key is starting to give up too... oh and the left hinge casing is falling apart. Total garbage build quality

The new model is much better-built, apparently.

I saw a 1555 at a big PC warehouse-type retailer a couple of weeks ago. It looked like a decent improvement on my 1537. I wish they'd swap my machine for a new one, it's on it's fourth media panel and had had a new DVD drive and a new motherboard - the drive still keeps ejecting randomly...

Same, apart from the motherboard,a nd they haven't swapped the media panel yet. If it keeps failing after the warranty I'm going to have to hit them with the thing ounder the sale of goods act (someone correct me) about being able to get it repaired out of warranty if there is an inherent fault.

Are you sending it back for repair or replacement?

I asked about a replacement, which was flatly refused. I have an extended warranty, so will keep reporting the faults as they occur. Sooner or later the repair costs are going to exceed what I paid for the whole package!

My sister ordered one on the 19th of July and it came on the 28th. Surprised me at how long it took.

Seems a very nice laptop though.

Seems the only way to get this level of spec with decent build quality is to get a macbook :(

I fear you may be right. I was originally looking at a Macbook but it would have been an extra 30% outlay, my wife wasn't keen on the keyboard feel and of course there were concerns over software. I know Macs can run Windows, but there was a nagging doubt. In the end as I was on a budget of nearer to £500 than near to £1000 I plumped for the Dell.

Oh well...

Hmm. For my budget I'd have to be looking at the 13" macbook which is just too small for me. I'm not particularly keen on mac os either

Ahh. must have been updated since I last looked. Thought it was the radeon 3xxx (I forget which one)

Any idea of the Studio XPS 16 is affected by the faulty media touch panel that plagued the Studio 15 and 17?

Don't believe so, as far as I'm aware it's just the original Studio 15 that had that problem. My M1330 has the touch-sensitive controls and they've never acted up, so I'm not sure what Dell did wrong on the Studio to cause so many problems.

hmmm.... so i think it's between the Studio XPS 16 and the Sony FW41E/H

For my budget the Sony does have a little better spec. Larger screen, blu-ray and more ram.....
