Anyone ordered a Studio 15 recently?

We had 300 1545s come in recently, took about two weeks from ordering to delivery, only one DOA... Reasonable machines.

Oh whoopy-do. Just finished an chat online and Dell wish to replace the motherboard, hinge cover (media panel) and DVD drive. Again. The current M/B is less than a week old. I'm on my fourth hinge cover (current one days-old) and second drive.

What do I need to do to get my 1537 swapped for a 1555?

Supposedly there was an updated firmware leaked for the actual touch panel that fixed the issue. It's not been officially released yet. Pretty poor when you consider that the issue has existed for over a year.

I'll happily keep requesting the in home service until it's sorted. I wonder how much it costs them each time? The blokes who come out seem to travel a good sixty miles minimum, spend an hour doing the repair, have to bring new parts... It's got to be a fair few quid, right?

Hey, if they're an experienced engineer like me they might get £9!

Chinese manufacture + Indian call centres + contracted out service with low paid self employed (no sick pay, no paid holiday etc..) engineers = cheap laptops for dell customers!

Dude!! I had this issue of ejecting on start up, but I downloaded a firmware from some forum, and it fixed the problem. Never again since the update have I had any issues with the media panel. I may still have the firmware on my laptop, will try to dig it out when I get home.
