I restored my laptop to factory settings last week so it has all of its original programs on it, including a load of hidden object games, I started one to see what it was like as i have never played them before and found it worryingly addictive:o
I know they are rubbish but I find them quite fun as something lite, i now usually have one on the go when i am playing poker on my other screen.

I have also downloaded a load of them to my mums laptop and she absolutely loves playing them(though i often get phone calls asking me how to start them, or turn the laptop on:rolleyes:)

Anyone else play or played them?

I tend to enjoy them from time to time, when I can't be bothered with anything more demanding.

You're right -- they can be worryingly addictive! Big Fish Games have a seemingly endless supply.

Yes, this one of my guilty pleasures alongside AAA games.

The series of games I enjoy is the Mystery Case Files. But they have morphed from simple hidden object titles into very decent puzzle/adventure hybrids. They release a new game each Christmas. I highly recommend trying Dire Grove, 13th Skull or any of the Ravenhearst series (although the first Ravenhearst game was pure hidden object).

I have no idea what you're talking about...!

Can you give some examples?

Yeah sorry, someone linked to some earlier. They are basically just static backgrounds such as a bedroom/laboratory or whatever where a load of objects have been hidden in plain sight and you have a checklist of the items that you have to find in order to clear the room, that is all there is to it! Some of them can be quite tricky tbh and they often merge in to puzzle games as well, they are just a bit of fun really, hardly great games but they can get very involving. I played "Agatha Christies Death on The Nile" at work the other night whilst on a night shift and actually got quite in to it:o

I would have to agree with D3lirious, i see them as something of a guilty pleasure as well, though I would certainly defend them by saying that they can be great fun and i imagine are quite good for you as they give your brain a bit of a workout as well.

There are loads that you can try for free on here - http://www.shockwave.com/download/hidden-object-games.jsp. The Sherlock Holmes one is quite tricky

Used to playthem in the pub on the megatouch, the sassy ones with the time limits were allways a laugh after a few pints.

The game goes way back though, allways big in the 80's from my younger years in print magazines and competions, no wonder they translated so well to the pc casual market.

I like them, but it's another one of the avoids... too addictive:)

i started playing an episodic series of hidden object games called case book as i really wanted to play a new fmv game, ultimatly though the gameplay and game in general was just kinda dull and i didnt finish the series.

Yup and some of them are far from rubbish. :D I wish Steam would add more though, there are loads out there which it doesn't have. I guess since EA bought PopCap, all those games are going to be Origin only.

Just checked on Steam and it looks like some of the MCF games are on there.
Try the first for a classic hidden objects game with some cool puzzles thrown in:

Then the second game turned it more into a point and click adventure with hidden object rooms.

Surprisingly addictive with production values you perhaps wouldn't expect from casual games.
