Ive been playing Dead Island, enjoyable but now ive moved on from the resort section and into the city im finding it extremely hard to do on my own.

I know from reviews its more coop based but surely it should be possible to play on your own?

Ive just done an escorting mission and must have died at least 4 times. A constant onslaught of 4 or more zombies!!

I know it may seem like im just crap but honestly im not! :D

Anyone else playing on their todd and finding things tough?

Is this game actually any good? Or was it another disappointing release for an anticipated game?

Games never match expectations imo - if they do its very rare, infact some of the better games just come along and bam.. its loved.

Anyway its fun, a lot of fun in coop, plenty of missions, variety is enough. Graphics are nice, melee combat rewarding as is making new weapons. Some glitches, probably could have been better given the scenario... but thems the breaks. Id say its worth 20 quid nothing more, but theres DLC to come and that could well improve things further.

I really am enjoying it tbh, but the only problem im having is how hard it is. I do enjoy a challange but when dying takes a lot of money off it does get abit enraging. Like I died 4 times in a row within afew minuites and litterally half my money had gone.

Melee combat is brilliant and playing on your own does make you feel alone in a city full of zombies. I have had afew genuine jumps and ARRGGHHH's too which is nice.

Its also nice how when fighting real people with guns, a straight headshot will bring them down instantly unlike some RPG type games where everyone is super human.

A very good game but ye, im just struggling to stay alive atm and its ****ing me off!

I've just got to the church section and the difficulty has ramped noticably. I will probably be dropping in and out of co-op games to get through some of the tougher missions.

I've played through most of it solo but I have have hooked up with a few people for a quest here and there. I'd say I did co-op for maybe 50% of the story and 90% of the side quests were done solo. I tend to die a fair bit more when playing solo but you get all the lootable items to yourself.

When you complete the game you get to go back to the start with your existing equipment and levels. Zombies also level with you, except when you join someone doing their first run and then the zombies level down considerably making it so easy.

I think the £30 was well spent considering the 30+ hours spent playing it, where some games cost me £30 and played a lot less. There's something strangely satisfying about hacking a zombie's head/arms/legs off.

Yeah played through the entire story as a single player (blunt weapons expert) it wasn't too tough.

Also started a new story as the blade expert, but it's noticeably harder.

I completed the game and soloed about 75%, it can get though at some points and loosing cash is bitch

A few Tips:

I found using a mouse and keyboard is easier than analog control pad as you spam attacks faster.

Also kick is must! does not require energy, especially when surrounded by zombies! Just focus on killing one and kick the others away.

Aim for the head or limbs cut them off :D

Not sure what class your playing but if your using the rapper get the ram skill! its amazing when combined with stomp, you just ram them and stomp no need to use your weapons, its also is a great escape tool.

If you do get stuck head over the dead island post a lot people willing to coop over there: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18242953&page=34

I've been thinking of buying this after seeing The Yogscast play through it, it looks like a lot of fun.

I prefer playing solo, but after what I've heard in this thread, it seems I may be forced to go co-op.

How does the co-op work in this game? Can I join people who are on the same mission as I am? Would I be able to join people doing the same side-mission, or is it just main mission based?

tbh i think ive made the mistake of chooseing the throwing weapons dude, really i shuold of went with the blunt weapons guy...

I found it relatively easy, just some kicks to the head and then finish them off while they're trying to get up. If there's more of them, run off a few yards and repeat. I was about 7 hours in and one of 'em got me, and on respawn all my inventory had gone.

Haven't touched it since.

I though the same. Don't change.

You can 1 shot thugs with your throwing weapon in the end, don't even have to go near the dirty zombies at all, you become a knife throwing machine.

Only problem is you run the risk of losing your weapon. I have a fix for that too.

On my second playthrough i decided to bend the rules a bit and duplicate my good weapons just in case i loose them.

Just before you throw your weapon press the drop weapon key (I played on xbox controller so it was "Y"). it should then throw the weapon and also leave a duplicate on the ground.

Yeah I have been playing it on my own. Managed to get up to level 39 then completed the game so have restarted it. You get to keep your level, abilities and weapons you finished with.

Also if you're buying the farm a lot as the blade expert, you can spend points that can reduce the cost by, I think, 50%.

Yon can complete the game solo there is no need to coop if you don't want to.

When your are playing the game and you near somebody else it says press J to join "name". You can then team up play main missions/side mission once you leave you have to choice to revert back the save where you were before you joined MP session, or continue with progress you just did with coop player.

When joining other peoples games you carry on from there current quest status, you can also join other games via the lobby.
