Anyone REALLY use skype?

I use it to call my sister who is living in North Carolina for the next year or so, she also uses it to phone home and her friends. Seeing as it costs just over a penny a minute we'd be foolish not too.

I use it on my mobile because you can make infinite calls for £1 in a 24 gour period through t-mobile.

Can you tell me how this works please, sounds good?! To mibiles to?

I use it instead of my NTL phone line to call UK landline numbers, NTL is 3p per minute daytime + 5p connection, whereas skype is 1p per min.
So im saving 7p on a 1 min call, and then 2p per min after that.

It doesnt sound much but during the year it all adds up.

I used voipbuster to call my gf in the US, evren with a fast computer on a 2mb telewest very fats broadband connection I got terrible quality with a very large lag. And this dials a landline and not a useless computer connection.
I put up with it because it was free and if you were pateint you could use it.

But then they started charging 1p a minute so I stopped using it, a few months later for some reason my credit ran out. A quick search online and I found telediscount- 1p a minute to the US, charges per minute or second (can't remember which), no minimal call charge, no need to pay for set call time or pay sign up charges or anything.

I lift the phone, dial the access number, dial my destination and connect through with perfect quality at 1p minute. I really don't understand the purpose of skype comapred to things like telediscount.

But you can do it withgout a computer for less than the cost of skype...

tell your sister to get a nobelcom card, cnas clal the UK for 1cent minute.

I use voipcheap to phone poland because its cheaper than skype 0.5p /min vs skypes 1.2p /min and the call quality is leagues better than skype, plus I get free-minutes for calls to the UK and a load of other destinations.

At the moment I use the Tesco internet phone, the calls are 2p a minute for everywhere in the UK/World, which isn't the best, but you get a free local number for ever which you have to pay a fair bit for with Skype.

I'm still using the £5 credit I got free with the handset (which is really good quality and works with Skype too), I might consider changing after.

Best thing is I've totally done away with a landline, as I have NTL cable internet, so I save £12 a month on that, which is loads more than I spend phoning home to NZ.

I'm about to start using Skype on my mobile as I'm going abroad today. It's 2p a minute with a wifi connection to phone home, as opposed to the £1.40 T-Mobile choose to charge. No contest really...

i used to use voiptalk.org for my hosting company but since it died there wasnt really any need for it anymore, unlike skype where you have to pay for incoming calls they dont charge you.

why would you want to, by nature a circuit switched network is much more desirable for realtime communication then packet switched, and BT are hardly very expensive, many packages offering free calls, and you will pay line rental for your internet connection anyway. I can only see it being useful for international calls, and seeing that I don't know any people abroad, it has no use for me.

Not heard of 21CN mater? ;)
