Hi there,

I've got a Fuji s9600 at the moment, and I'm looking at getting a tripod for it.

I've been looking at the Sony VCT-R640 tripod, but I'm wondering if it's compatible or not?

Can someone care to recommend me a decent one for roughly £20-£30 or so.

Thanks :)

go into your local cameras shop and try a few - you dont want one to small that you are going to be hunched over and you also want one that you dont have to extend the center column too much as it is not as stable.

depending on what you are planning to use it for consider the weight of it. if you are going on long treks - the lighter it is the better - but too light and it wobbles in the wind.

any tripod will be compatible for the camera as the tripod screw is universal.

a lot of people will say this if you buy cheap you will buy again. Cheap tripods usually have plastic hinges that break after a few knocks. I wouldsay decent tripods start at least double your budget. but then again if you are going to be using it once every 6 months dont worry about the more expensive ones.

manfrotto 190xb and a 390rc2 head :)

ROFL! :)

Erm ... get yourself down the shops and see what you like best. Most recommendation on here will be for semi pro ones (Manfrotto for example, where the tripod and the head are seperate purchases and cost £150+). I think you would be best to look at one of the Velbon ones as they are the better of the budget range.

i got the jessops tp327 which is on half price atm for £27.99 iirc, seems quite good, with spirit levels,a 3 way pan head. going out to use it tonight, but it certainly seems alright, a good base till i can afford something better anyway

I have the Feisol CT-3441S with manfrotto 488RC2 mini ball head

the tripod cost £150 and is excellent, comparable in weight ,size and strength to some £300+ tripods - it folds away into the bag supplied very compactly

the 488rc2 head is also good but a little on the large side and restricts the tripods ability to fold away properly, i really should have bought the Feisol mini head instead as it would have fit better, all it means really is i have to carry the head seperately in my cam bag when i`m travelling

the only draw back is the tripod has to be shipped from singapore but its easy enough to order and i didnt pay any tax or vat

How about the Velbon CX 540 ? It's about £35 and as a cheap one it's quite good. :)

Best idea though is to go into your local camera shop and see what they have, and see which one you like.

The missus has just bought a Velbon CX 440 which is fairly good, if you can spend a bit more I can highly reccomend the Velbon Ultra Luxi F - I have had one for about 2 years and its been great!

Thank's for the recommendations guys, I have no problem stretching the budget if need be :)

I do use my camera a fair bit to be honest. I wouldn't say I'm out all the time with it, but it gets used a fair bit... more so when the weather is nicer :p

It's mostly personal use as I've got a good interest in photography, but also for work (web design means that unusual and nice looking pics are always needed!)

Cheers for the advice so far.
