Hey guys I just remembered something from my early CS and Wow days.

I used to download all my patches for games from ftp://ftp.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyondergames/

It used to always be the fastest way to get things. Does Virginmedia have a similar storage thing where we can get files these days?

Did anyone here use the same years back?

Edit : still running too, shame everything is so dated but the speeds are still rapid! :)

BlueYonder were always very good for gaming - they used to host hundreds of gaming servers for many different games. They'd almost always have the lowest ping of any servers - even though I was with different ISPs!

Unfortunately since the ntl/VM takeover, they've not focussed on that.

Hell yeah WP/BY vet here :) Someone I know laughed recently when I said I paid for dialup per min to access the best servers in the UK in my earlier years, they don't know what they were missing. Aside from the obscene per minute charges.

There's a thread/request with Virgin to give us a localcache steam content server, I think this is about as far as they will go now.

Haha Myshra I remember trying barrysworld dialup to get better pings. Pinging 140-160 on dialup was the stuff of legend back then :D

had a diamond modem too. was the mutts nutts at the time lol.

blueyonder gaming used to be awesome i rememeber having 8-12ms pings in counterstrike :D

i think i must have been on 512k broadband back then :D

Yep, used to use that a lot. Went from BarrysWorld dialup to 512k Blueyonder, it was amazing. Used to play Action Quake a lot and CounterStrike.

My first proper broadband was from Blueyonder, I remember the FTP well.

Never was the same once it got bought by NTL and then Virgin.

Was my number one source for FM Patches!

Back when internet used to hiss at you for downloading 2mb!

I remember when I switched to Blueyonder way back in 2003 and they told me of the FTP to test download speeds. Ah the memories :D

When I was on 512K using BT, I had no idea such a site existed. Wish I did back then. But hey ho :)

Wasn't NTL bought by Blueyonder?

Also, I remember getting Blueyonder when it first came out. Difference in gaming was awesome!

i used to game on jolt.co.uk servers which dont seem to exist anymore :(
