Anyone seeing car insurance pricing increases?

My renewal with Sheila's Wheels has doubled in price from £426 to £852. Their only explanation over the phone was it's not me, its 'ratings' that have changed on all of their policies pushing up prices.

Ive been with that company for probably five years now, and always had fair renewal prices. Not any more.

Prices in the market seem up generally, I am going to struggle getting close to my last year's price, probably up by 30% at least looking at comparison sites.

My renewal is more expensive than last year for the first time in a few years and shopping around isn't making much of a dent in it either - though i'm only looking at it being maybe 20% more expensive, not double.

yeap mine has gone up about 33% but i put it down to the new car being more expensive value wise, son and daughter both said there policys are dearer despite no claims:(

Mine has gone up about 10% which isn't too bad given it was slightly cheaper last year than the year before.

Maybe it’s an age related thing?

To see how driver age impacts the cost of comprehensive car insurance, we gathered quotes for the UK's most popular car, a Ford Fiesta, across a range of ages for a male driver. Rates typically drop throughout adulthood until around 60 years of age. In our study, premiums dropped 45% between the ages of 20 and 55, then rose again by 60% from age 55 to 75. Prices are higher for younger and older drivers because insurance companies perceive a higher risk of road traffic accidents amongst these age groups.

I paid £175 last year and £178.27 this year with the same insurer although this year they added a £20 "set up fee" (broker). It was still cheaper than all the other quotes I got on Go Compare so I stuck for once. That's fully comp with 19 years NCB.

Mine went from £160 to £150, Mrs went from £150 to £133.

We do live in a "lol, nothing bad ever happens" postcode though.

Plus had £40 topcashback on each one!

Received an email from Aviva for my renewal. £353 last year - £481 this year.
10 mins on confused then moneysupermarket and i got it for £353.
Confused cheapest was £392 for the same company (Darwin) as moneysupermarket.

The wife's renewal with Darwin increased by £11, (£179)that i call reasonable.

The same thing happened to me once. Had been with Privilege for c.10 years and never made a claim then they randomly doubled my premium for no real reason. The excuse being "there have been more claims on your type of car recently" (Golf GTI at the time)

Needless to say, I left and never returned so they lost my consistent and repeat business for essentially no reason at all.

I was getting quotes at the end of last year that had gone up from quotes of £700 end of 2021 to about £850 end of 2022 My actual insurance went from £550 to £525. I love Keith Michaels and despise all the mainstream insurers.

not car insurance but Aviva just tried to hike my house insurance by 25%. Shopped around, got better cover for substantially less with a different company. Aviva's priority appears to be shareholder dividends, not customers.

They screwed around my wife's car insurance last renewal somewhat rotten, moved hers to Darwin on the spot.
So this year i was determined to move regardless, the extra price just made it easier.
