Anyone seen this? I thought it would be some crappy hip hop film just about gangsters and stuff, but its actually nothing to do with hip hop stuff, just a powerful drama about a group of friends groing up in south central LA (Ghettos) in the early 90's, really quite sad near the end.

So anyone else seen it?
 
Got the special edition DVD, extremely good film! Love it!

Also watch 'Menace II Society'! Then after you have watched them watch;

'Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood'

All excellent films!

Apparently it was one of the inspirations for GTA:SA, though the 'hood in Ganton looks more like the cul-de-sac in Training Day, TBH.

As said above, classic film though the pace was a bit slow and...if you are expecting GTA style murder, mayhem and multiple drive-bys that's not quite what's in the box.
 
Not seen it in millions of years but I remember it being not too bad.
Whilst on the subject, CB4 was similar to Don't be a Menace, but funnier.
 
"Juice" with Tupac in it is also worth a mention and is a must if you want to get the most out of 'Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood'
 
the best film ive seen in the urban category would have to be "never die alone"its simply superb and its about a ruthless twisted drug dealer, he kills the mother of his kid(s) and even scars his own son for life, he doesnt even know his own son when he comes back several years later and they have a few fights, its a big film starring DMX and a few other famous actors
 
great movie - last time i saw it was alst year... might get it on DVD or somthign, must be cheap as chips now!
 
Is this the film that starts off in that convinence store? And one of the two lads shoots the chinese store owner in the face? and its caught on CCTV? I think i remember it! i havent seen a film like that in a few years.
